Are you ****** kidding me? This post is a perfect example.

This is a legitimate question that probably affects a lot of people out there.

If you really have ADHD, you ought to see a therapist. There is a dramatic difference between children who need it and those who don't, and those who do who receive the appropriate medication show dramatic improvement (i.e. failing grades to A's).

is it a coincidence that your name is syringer?

I don't fall asleep. I'm usually wide awake during class, and no matter how much I tell myself I have to focus I just can't bring myself to do it..

most people are not auditory learners. it is a real gift to be one.

the problem is that tertiary education is from the fvcking stone age. you learn by doing, not listening ;)

i swear seeing 150 people bored to tears in lecure hall is such an eye opener. i hope college one day becomes more about learning and less of a rite of passage.

unfortunately i see the opposite happening.

It affects everyone, because it's NORMAL. Get more sleep, go to class with a full stomach, sit in the front, suck it up.

I hate arrogant assholes like yourself that think that everyone experiences the world like you do.

If you are putting a lot of effort into school and still struggling to pay attention it is not normal. You are not normal. Call it add, call it a learning disability, or call it just being different as I like to. That fact is not everyone conforms to learning like you do.

Why do I have a feeling that the OP works 10x harder at school than you do and is probably 10x smarter while you sit on your ass and watch MTV, go to class once and a while and then call everyone else lazy because they don't have as easy a time as yourself.

;)

Seriously if you are concerned enough about this to be posting about this on an internet forum you probably do have some sort of learning disability. A lot of people do.

But instead of trying to medicate yourself and be like everyone else why don't you figure out what you are good at and play to your strengths. I for one do not belive in standardizing people through medication so that they can fit the teacher type we have adpoted.

I would rather see the teaching style adpot to the student than vice versa.

Call it making excuses. Sorry, I don't have cable or satellite, no MTV for me :) When I'm in school I go pretty much every session and often fall asleep or daydream, and my grades have suffered because of it. You don't hear me crying or popping pills, though. If you're serious about wanting to do better, you can make it happen without medicating yourself into submission. Like I said, eat and sleep better, sit in front where you're more likely to pay attention, maybe try to exercise a bit more if you slack there, and also get rid of distractions - music, tv, internet. Maybe that opinion is arrogant, but then again there are a lot of naive people - maybe our standards have just dropped.

I'm a senior in college and have been pretty much tried it all over the better part of 8 years. I've never really fallen behind so no drastic measures have ever been taken to try to remedy it, but it's not too easy to ignore either.

I go to class with the intent of focusing and paying attention, I eat and sleep more healthily than most college kids that I know, workout several times a week and usually sit in the front of class.

Also, I don't recall there being music, tv or internet in your typical lecture halls. I have no doubt there are lazy, undisciplined people out there, but I can assure you that it's not just a simple "remedy" that can turn things around for me..as I've gone through most of them..short of going to a medical doctor for this thing.
