OTA Antenna - Where to put splitter

bunker

Lifer
Right now, my antenna is in my attic, with about an 80 foot run down into the basement then up to my TV on the main floor.
It has a pre-amp and the power supply for that amp is plugged in at the end of the run, right before the TV.
I want to split it so I can run the antenna to a bedroom.
My question is, where does the splitter need to be in relation to the power supply?

Right now:
Antenna-->Power-->TV

Proposal A:
Antenna-->Power-->Splitter-->2 TV's

Proposal B:
Antenna-->Splitter-->Power-->1st TV
Antenna-->Splitter-->2nd TV

Since I can't really draw here in Prop B the 2nd TV would come off the same splitter as the first.

I'm assuming Prop A is correct, but my google skills are failing me.

When I was using a powered antenna in my attic going to two rooms, I was using "Proposal A" and didn't have any issues. Unless of course I removed the powered part and then I got no reception. I'm wondering if you would get good reception on 2nd TV on Proposal B.

Antenna --> 50' run to Power --> 50' run to each TV

I now have a bigger antenna that isn't powered but pulls more stations 🙂

You can also split the signal before the pre-amp's power injector if you use a splitter that has DC pass through on one of its ports. A standard 2-way splitter will work best if placed after the power supply (Proposal A).

A pass-through splitter gives you a little more flexibility on where you can place the splitter. This would be Proposal B. You just have to make sure that you place the pass-through branch on the line that goes to your pre-amp's power supply.

Prop A is the better option and will result in the cleaner signal.
