My home has the following set up: Directv 3 LNB dish plus Directv international dish.I do not need them anymore. How do I use the existing hardware from these dishes to install an Outdoor antenna to get OTA signal into multiple rooms of the house just like the satellite signal was. From dish the cable goes into swm and then into a spliter.

install exterior antenna
disconnect sat dish from existing coax network
connect antenna to existing coax network
replace any swm splitters with standard splitters

fyi you cannot diplex anymore

Firstly, Thank you so much for making it simple in four easy steps. If I am understanding your suggestion correctly:
  • Remove both the grey box and the green splitter and the dish.
  • Install Antenna
  • Buy a standard splitter
  • Connect the Antenna coax to the splitter
  • Connect the other end of the splitter to the Coax(s) going into the house.
  • Remove any other Swm hardware inside the house.

Couple of questions:
1.Will the green splitter as shown in the photograph not work as a standard splitter?
2.Are you aware of any antennas that can be attached to the mast after taking the dish off so I do not have to drill any new holes into the roof.
3. Is this a standard splitter? https://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=cm-3212hd
4. I have a green swm splitter which just looks like the one right above.

Success! :)
I have 7 channels.Thank you very much.
When I was testing the antenna ( GE pro Yagi Antenna) from walmart in the day time I got more channels- 14.The antenna was sitting against the wall and ground. When I mounted it on the roof using the existing directv dish arm I had to constantly go up and down the roof to change direction to get upto 7 channels. Is there a reason for this?
I am using the digital coax four way splitter ( Onn) from walmart in place of the Directv splitter. Also, I am using one of the satellite cables which was connected to one of the LNB's .I took that out and connected it to the antenna and the other end to the Onn four way splitter.

Use TVFool or Rabbitears.info to confirm the direction to point your antenna

the following websites will give you ideas as to the best direction to point, as well as what would be a reasonable expectation for which channels you may get..

http://www.tvfool.com
http://www.antennaweb.org/Address

If you are pointed in an optimal direction, you may need to get an amplifier to overcome weak signal, or a distribution amplifier to mitigate signal loss due to splitting/ long cable runs/ other cable losses.
