Where is everyone? Right now, I'm suckin'. I'm probably going to be kicked out of the Navy in July. A friend of mine said he can maybe set me up with a job then, in San Diego. Not looking forward to moving out of Texas. 🙁

Ugh, life is just kinda suckin' right now.....

UPDATED: I heard from my superiors today at LT's call that they are kicking people out for 4 PRT failures, not 3. And they have to be consecutive. Which means I'm alright. I might have a sh!tty eval from this point on, but I'll be staying in atleast until my normal time of getting out. I'm currently looking for the new regulation (OPNAV 6110.xxx), to see what I can find out for sure...

UPDATED²: I just read the current regulation (6110.1H), and it says 3 failures. So once again, I'm in limbo. UGH!!!!

UPDATED(²)²: Okay. Here's the deal. 6110.1H states 3 failures in 4 years. However, there was a recent Navy message that changed this to 4 failures in 4 years. So I'm okay. I'll likely fail this upcoming PRT, just because I'm to the level of endurance to handle it yet. But now I have 7 months to get ready for that swim...

aye, life can suck sometimes. just think how fortunate you are that you weren't born as some 3rd world kid hoping you get .89c of rice to eat a day. that finding a new career and moving out of texas (a blessing to some 😛 ) is your biggest problem.

hey at least you have a beautiful wife and some nice rigs. 🙂

Unemployment rate is at a 5 year low. There are jobs everywhere I look. Around here people are begging for help and can't find any. I'm down 8 people at work and can't find anyone.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but I'm sure it will work out well for you in the end somehow.

For me, life partially sucks and partially doesn't suck - it's just incredibly busy and stressful. I should be studying sequences and series (*curses Drs. Taylor and Maclaurin under his breath*) right now for a math exam tonight, but I am wasting a few minutes here instead. Other than that, I get to play with cool gooey things in chem lab this afternoon, and the weather is just freakin awesome, so there's not too much to complain about.

Thanks ya'll. I've finally gotten over the whole "the worlds gonna end" feeling. Liz (my wife) seems to think that everything is just going to be find, but I'm still worried.

Even if you get a bcd, there are ways around it. I had some friends that got in trouble in town and were discharged. They did 6 months community service, and had their bcd's turned into oth. Then they did 3 months community service and had their oth's turned into general discharges.

2 are gs-9's and the other two own their own businesses, so don't consier it the end of the road, rather look into what can be done.

I wish you the best, and hope things get brighter for you.

Mike

I honestly hope things works out for the best for you and wife.. in the end they usually do! So just hang in there and have faith and all will be better than before! 😀

So far, except for one instance I can think of.... every time life crapped on me I found myself looking back (sometimes it took a while) and feeling I was a lucky dog.

Trust me, promotion to Civ-1 isn't all that bad a thing. 😉

Keep your nose to the wind and you'll figure it out as it goes. a day at a time

That was a great thing for me 😀
I remember walking down the brow, playing Twisted sister's "Were not gonna take it" full blast as I hurried to the cab that was taking me to the airport lol

I am quite sure that most people know the language ... but this is like chinese to me.
bcd, oth, gs-9: OK, I assume the lanuage is governmentese, the militarese dialect, but could someone explain? :Q

I hope all will end well for you, Fullmetal Chocobo! 😀

bcd = Bad Conduct Discharge
oth = other than honorable discharge
gs-9 = government employee, ninth level

(returning the de-coding favor of a couple days ago 😀 )

Right on the money.

Sorry Peter, sometimes (read most times) I forget that teammates are international, and I should spell it out more, I apologize.

Mike

In June it will be 8 years in the Navy, active duty. By rate/rank, I'm IC1 (SW), but currently serving as 9545 security. I didn't do anything wrong. I'm in the running for getting out for PRT failures.

I have two of them from nearly 4 years ago that are haunting me (back when it was "PT? Screw that, get back in the hole"). And the Navy is doing their best to lower their numbers, so in July, anyone with 3 failures in four years is getting processed out autmatically.

I injured my knee while working up for the run for the last PRT, so I literally can't run this one. And I've started working on my swim, but I'm not that great of an endurance swimmer apparently. It seems like my lungs just can't handle it. And that's where I am now.

PRT = Physical Readiness Test. Basically consists of a few parts:
# of situps in 2 minutes
# of pushups in 2 minutes
1.5 mile run in specified time or 500-yard swim in specified time

Sorry man, that truly sucks, you can die for your country...but if you can't meet 3 requirements in 4 years you are out. I know that there has to be a standard, but you aren't gonna run around most of the navy's ships. Unless its an aircraft carrier, maybe, as most are too short and skinny to make it realistic to do (hence its done in port).

There haven't been many cases where (in todays age) you would be required to storm the beaches, run down criminals etc... Thats why they have the other armed forces.

N - never
A - again
V - volunteer
Y - yourself

"The Navy is doing their best to lower their numbers" ... Sad that it doesn't matter that you have given 8 years, heck drug addicts and alcoholics get treated better.

I'll give you this much, having given 8 years says you are willing to follow orders better than most and have the patience of job. You will do fine as a Civilian 🙂

I salute you Sir!

I hope things work out for you Fullmetal Chocobo, whatever happens.

I had no idea what they were talking about either Peter 😕

man things have changed alot since my day.........i quess like you said they are trying to drop there numbers..........in my time they would take anyone ...😉 there were no physical tests on a regular basis.(i never had one since boot) good luck....things WILL work out...

Well, looks like I'll be staying in. There was a message changing the instruction a bit, so I'm pretty much good to go. I think fate can't make me worry about being in limbo anymore, so it's determined to make me suffer for the rest of my time in. Man, what a sh!tty past couple of days. 🙁

Take care and get some rest, it will help you feel better.

I prescribe a 6 pack of some great  😛

Yepp, sounds good Mike.
But before all of the 6-pack is down, I would prescribe a round or two of your favorite computer game with your wife (and the consequences thereof - see your previous sig 😉 ) 😀

Take care Fullmetal Chocobo, let the frustration pass (yeah, thats not as easy done as said - but you can) and try to enjoy the good parts of life. 😀
