Hi guys, I did post a similar question in the motherboard section here at AT before, twice, and in the Overclocker's section, but have never gotten a reply 🙁

I know a lot of you are serious crunchers here, and have excellent knowledge from which I hope you will be able to guide me to a good motherboard that is the best balance between stability, performance, and overclockability when fed 2 AMD XP 1800+ chips vs. the MP chips?

I'd love to hear any great experiences in this, or even really bad ones, anything to help me decide between the meager offerings out there...plus I still don't know if all of them (Asus, MSI, Tyan that I know of) will even run the XP's in SMP mode...?

Many many thanks in advance,

Check my sig. - IMO, the Asus is the best balance of perf/stability/oc. I have two xp1800s on the Asus a7m266d motherboard and it works fine (not officially supported my amd). OCs up to 142fsb and stable using the parts I have, any higher and it will bsod or prime95/cpuburn crashes.

Other then seti, this pc rips dvds and gaming on counterstrike no problems. Just don't use the onboard C-Media sound (I found it unstable with it on thru bios). There is a usb2.0 bug in the amd chipset where there is no onboard usb ports with this board.

You might want to check out the Epox mpx board about to be released in couple of weeks - that supposedly will fix the usb problem, along with the MSI board.

Thanks m2kewl! I knew about the USB problem and that is a big oooooops from AMD for sure. The good thing is I believe that Asus is shipping an extra USB card as a workaround, although it kills a slot...

In the back of my mind I was also wondering if there might be news of an upcoming KT333 based board that supports dualies but I don't know.

When you mention MSI are you referring to their current dualie board? Or are they coming out with a new one? I am running a single XP 1800+ on an MSI board right now and am very happy with it.

Thanks again! 🙂
