Anyone know the max temp an AMD XP 1700+ can run? I think I remember reading around 90 degrees C. That seem accurate? Want to *ahem* make it a lil faster, but don't want to melt it down :)

I wouldn't recommend going over 60C but I think that you are right that 90C is the absolute peak.

My rig automatically locks up when their at 70C (yes - I got it that high). Right now it's 50C full load.

90 C is the maximum safe operating temperature for AMD processors. Common operating temperatures are around 40-60 C. Anything under 60 is safe, under 50 is good, and under 40 is excellent.

I'm currently running my XP1700+ 11 x 148 FSB with + 0,075 V for cpu and + 0,2 for ram
Thermal Take Volcano 6CU and a fan blowing in on it from the side of the cabinet.
Runs S@H 24/7 with temps: between 41 - 46 C.

Now i'm waiting for my Watercooling setup ;):):D

my 1700+ was running at 50c in my old case
I moved it to the new case, was running about 58c

I installed my sk6 with ys-tech 7200 rpm fan, went down to about 39c
now I have my fsb oc'd to 148, and the cpu is running about 49-52c
at 151, windows would boot but programs freezed my computer... 150 had a blue screen right away, 149 worked fine for about 8 hours while I was away from my computer, blue screen when I came back and played an mp3
I've had ECCp running the whole time

hmm I havent tried upping my voltage yet... bleh I'll try tomorrow... I wonder how high I can get the fsb

My XP1500(1.33GHz) overclocked to 1.53GHz ,153MHz FSB,CAS2 etc runs SETI 24/7 CPU temps stay in the lower 50's with case temps in the low to mid 20's(room temps are the same as case temps:)).Those temps will go up about 5-7 C on hot Summer days
Cooling is a GW FOP32,1 inlet fan ,1 exhaust fan & the PSU fan exhausting

Current temps
Case 23C
Room 23C
CPU 50C

athlon temps are inaccurate as can get... for some reason no one uses the built-in thermal diode that amd added to the palomino core... really they should implement thermal protection clock throttling like intel has... its not like powernow! isn't built into every AXP core...

EDIT: i really have no idea how warm my core is but my case temps are ~100F/38C

Yeah its true that Athlon cpu temps are inaccurate ,but it does give you a ballpark figure & its still accurate to compare temps within the same system

That's rather warm for your case temp!,what's your room temps? ,you got hot weather?
