I realized quite a few follow TeAm members are from across the Atlantic, where soccer is life for a lot of people there. :)

I think England might have a hard time advancing to the 2nd stage

The WC team of Portugal this year is one of the most talented team IMHO. See them in the finals.

Mind to share your favourite picks or defending England's situation? :D

Yeah, it's football!

Even I, as an Englishman, don't think England will get very far!

At least i hope they don't, so we can get all the crap and hype surrounding it out of the way after a week!

I can't stand football, i can't sit down and watch a 90 minute match! Give me a game of snooker or cricket and i'll be able to watch it! Same with rugby (that's "football" over "there", but not for wussies, no pads/helmets) :)

What's that soccer crap u americans invented?

Its FOOTBALL, you have a ball (round ball) and you play it with your foot, so we Europeans have FOOTBALL and you Americans have a modified version of Rugby.

As for the WC, GO PORTUGAL!!!! we'll beat the crap out of very other team out there.

Who else has players like Figo, Rui Costa, Paulo Sousa, Nuno Gomes, Pauleta, Sérgio Conceição, Simão Sabrosa e Fernando Couto (to name just a few.)?

If the referees r imparcial has they should be Portugal will win this World Cup like they should had won in 1966.

PS: Sorry for the rant about soccer but I can't believe that you ppl call a sport Football when most of the play is done with the hands.

:D

Call it soccer, football, futbol, futebol, or call it calcio... it don't matter to me, I love the game :)

Too bad most of my fellow Americans don't. But who can blame them with the pathetic officiating, and the caliber of play in the States. And since, all of our good prospects play in Europe, many don't even know half the players on our national team.

But the game is starting to catch on. If the US can have a decent showing at the WC... who knows...

>>As for the WC, GO PORTUGAL!!!! we'll beat the crap out of very other team out there.

Argentina and France will be tough, and there is always Italy and Brazil to contend with.

As for me, I will root for U...S...A......U...S...A......U...S...A... until they are eliminated.
And then it's I-tal-ia, I-tal-ia, I-tal-ia . Unless of course, the U.S. makes it to the Final ;)

Just like every world cup since 1990, when the U.S. national team surpised Trinidad & Tobago to qualify. :)

If we are healthy going into the cup watch out.

I say we have the two best keepers in the world. I still don't understand why more club teams don't import American keepers. The keepers playing MLS ball are better than most the UEFA Champions League clubs' keepers.

Football, soccer, whatever... It's still the best game out there :)

I am with you nagger, Portugal is going to rock this year as they have the best midfielders on this planet. I'd love to see Portugal playing Spain in the finals if the matchup allows it.

the english named it soccer. from association football (which is the sport's full name). also the term ruggers from rugby football. so don't even try to say that americans are wrong by calling the sport soccer, as we're being more specific and you people are being so general that you could be talking about 1 of a multitude of sports.

Guys, it doesn't matter how is name, what it really matter is how you play the game, and as long is a fair game (not trying to destroy your opponent with kicks and elbows), with possesion of the ball, quick changes and combinations plus alot of shooting to the goals, I can sit (not when I'm coaching) and enjoy one, two or more games.

I LOVE SOCCER , and let's go ARGENTINA, I hope the best team reachs the final, those that shows in the field how to play the best game in earth.

Best regards and have a great Sunday

I still suspect the U.S. paid a huge sum of money to Columbia in WC '94 so that they could advance to the playoffs

Well, we give them enough of our drug money anyway :)

Actually, we told them that we would legalize if they let us in, but we went back on our word :D

"Football, soccer, whatever... It's still the best game out there"

I'm not looking to start a flamewar but I'm gonna have to disagree with that. It might be the most popular in the world but I'll take the action of hockey over soccer anyday. I live in the USA and NFL "football" rules over here, especially where I live (Tampa Bay area). I'm a big fan of it but I realize it's more about $$$ than sport anymore. If I hear one more US athlete say "it's a business" I'm gonna puke!

I still don't understand why there's so many riots at World Cup soccer matches. The way I understand it there are some "fans" who come to the match with the sole intent to clash with rival fans. In the US media the riots make as much or more news than the matches themselves. Then again, some USA cities have fans who riot after a championship to "celebrate". Hey, we won! Let's go turn over cars and torch our town! Go figure...

Holy crap! I just heard on the local sportsradio station that a Columbian soccer team owner was killed this morning. Killed as in execution/murder. I remember a few years back that guy who kicked the accidential "own goal" getting murdered. I think that's taking the sport a little too seriously. :!

Is football/soccer that sport where half the time numerous fans die and then set fires and trample other people. I love to watch those highlights. For me the game is very boring. Maybe that's why the fans feel they have to start riots. Plus if the US fans treated football players the way that the rest of the world treats football/soccer players, then there would be numerous kicker murders throughout the season. Like that guy that was executed for kicking a goal the wrong way. Man there would be place kickers dropping like flies here! :p
