I re-installed windows XP with RH 8.0 on my main machine. Well I use outlook for my e-mail (When backed up it was a 120MB file!).

Once the installs were done I re-installed my copy of Outlook. And it wanted me to activate it so I said ok and clicked activate. Well guess what? The product is already activated (becuase of me before) ERRR My windows XP install sure didn't do this. The Microsoft rep I talk to is sure going to get a ear full!

LOL I should do that. Just set up a script to refresh ever 2 min and let it run all day!

Also that reminds me is there anyway I can run outlook while under redhat?

Hey, no WONDER it takes me 4 hours to do all the Win2KPro and Office2000 updates. :p Grrrr.

You know, some of us have to use WindowsUpdate for work purposes and I don't enjoy staying until 1am doing all the friggin updates, so I don't need all you Linux loving Windows haters bogging it down for me. Grrr. :|

;););)

Seriously though, I DO use it for work, so please don't bog it down. :)

As far as using outlook under linux: WHY?! If you are using exchange there is a plugin (payware I believe) for evolution or something like that for it to work with exchange. If you are using a regular pop3/imap account, there are much better mail clients for linux, and they are not virus spreading bloated POSes.

Hehe, me too, although I downloaded SP2 and the Post-SP2 Security Rollup. Even so, getting the remaining patches I want totals about 30Mb per machine (I've been avoiding SP3 and the infamous June 26 Windows Media Player patch, as well as the Automatic Updates feature). One of these days I should make some time and learn how to do that Q-chain thing where I could download the 30Mb of junk and apply it from a folder on the network in one fell swoop. :p

I did finally figure out how to make an administrative installation point for Office 2000, allowing me to pre-apply Service Pack 1A. That saves me quite a bit of time, since SP1A can take hours to complete on slow systems. :(

Yeah, I just did this too. It was very painless; I was quite surprised. They didn't even ask me for my name, address, SSN, age, height, weight, favorite number, color, car and movie, or my eye color.

Well I probably should explain further. First I just need an e-mail client that will allow me to import my current e-mail and folder layout from a .pst file.

Also I have a compaq iPaq and I would like to sync it. Is there a sync for Linux???

Based on what this says (and note that Evolution is a very comprehensive, Outlook-like open source mail client), only Netscape/Mozilla has that code (particularly since Netscape obviously has a relationship with M$ in order for NS to run on windoze and part of the impetus behind the anti-trust suit... ;))

In the past, provided that POP3 and a SMTP service is setup on Exchange, I have been able to POP and send through Exchange with NS mail and other *nix mail clients.

[EDIT - As for linux and the ipaq... -see this.]
