OT: winXP & sound card problem

I used to have the same problem with my old SQ2500. I found a fix on the vortex forums (I forget what the address is), and it basically involved my having to download WPCREDIT and edit my PCI settings. I ended up selling the SQ2500 and getting an Audigy. It was a pain having to find a fix every time I changed the motherboard or formatted the computer.

Thanks, I have WPCREDIT but don't know what to do with it.

It actually runs pretty smooth on the P133 with 64 megs EDO. Not for me, but for a kid machine to browse & hopefully listen to CD's & play a few old games.

if that site was vortexofsound.com they are gone
I set the card to IRQ5 and tried again, even rolled back to the older XP driver - still no go.
I get an error when trying to play a wav file that says I need to install "audio compression"

Well I had a thought, as editing with WPCREDIT / WPCRSET didn't help I went and installed Real player & let it take over all sounds.
Before this trying to play a CD produced an error, it would not even start playing with Media Player.
Now CD's play and you can listen to them with the output jack on the front of the cd player, no errors are produced.
I still get an error trying to play WAV files or MP3 files though, now it says the device is already in use.
