OT: Why don't you all use the Off Topic forum for your OT messages?

Because many people that frequent the Distributed Computing part of the forums do not often go into many other sections, namely OT. OT has it's own "community" of people who don't really go outside of OT, we have our own "community" that don't go outside of OT, hence the OT messages here. And most of our OT messages aren't the same type of things that go in the OT section.

This is definitely the friendliest forum on all of AnandTech.

TeAm AnandTech is pretty close to "family".

I make a post from time to time (as do others) about illness and going on trips in addition to posts about computer issues. I only make those kind of posts here because I consider the Distributed Computing Forum an extension of my real life family. :)

You may notice we have a lot of threads congratulating people on achievements within their respective projects. They are a little "Micky Mouse" but just wait until you achieve a goal that you are most proud ... you'll appreciate your friends patting you on the back too. :D

Now, don't take any of my comments (or that of others) as "putting you down" because that is the last thing any of us would want to do. After you hang around awhile longer, you'll see what I've said is true. ;)

Welcome to TeAm AnandTech and the Distributed Computing Forum. :D

NEF! :Q

Oh wait....wrong thread! ;)

Just because we are DC geeks doesn't mean we can't have fun too! :p

Welcome to the DC forum PorBleemo....the best of AnandTech! :D

Although I'm totally with the things Confused said, I can really understand why PorBleemo asked this question..
Who can tell me why that 7500+ nef topic still excitst? And why people who have over 4k posts (who should know about forum rules etc) making not double post, but post the same no-information-telling post 10 or more times? Post count on this forum means nothing at all, that's what I've noticed looking at 3 pages full of posts, with only 4 people posting in those pages!
I admit that I'd also join in on the neffing threads, but with one post at a time!!! This is really ridiculeous (or however that might be spelled..)!! But who am I to say something about it?
After looking somewhat more indepth in that huge topic, I see almost everyone joining that topic..
That topic sucks big time and should be closed if those people want to be taken a little bit more seriously..
Engineer, I don't call this "being funny" anymore..

Thumbs up for PorBleemo who started this topic!!

:(

All in fun Cygor. Nothing meant to bother anyone. The fact that there is ONE NEF thread....with the exception that a few others make their way there by topic change, etc.....keeps the forum somewhat neat. This is more of a family than a job. In a business, some of the stuff that goes on here would be frowned upon.......in a family (or TeAm)...a little fun is expected. Once the fun leaves, then so do many of the TeAmmates. I don't venture into OT very often....very little of the other forums. I don't care about post count, only post quality. My above post must have failed the quality test! :( Life is too short to worry about a few OT posts in the DC forum....enjoy the TeAm (family) for what it is.......

Happy Crunching Everyone.....still the best forum and group of people on the INTERNET!

Oh, and I have really ignored the big NEF thread for some time now. Once it grows old, simply ignore it (really). That's all you can do.

:)

You are absolutely right about that Engineer, but have you taken a closer look into that topic?
People seem to open the topic, immediatly hit the reply butten, type some text and then copy/paste ^10
to get a higher post count. What I'm trying to say is that it can scare of new members and it has
absolutely no use!
Those "excidently" nef threads are great fun, this isnt..

Again, everyone is right when they say that you cant find another forum where everyone is like a big family..

Sorry to spoil the fun but I asked the Mods to lock that 7000+ post nef thread and they did. Go ahead, call me a Mod Wannabe. :p

...guess I should have put that all in one post so I could avoid being accused of just posting to up my post count...

True. I don't like it when newbies think that they are somehow entitled to come in and change all the rules, and tell everyone how to act, what to do, etc.

Of course, you have to realize that there's an extensive quantity of tradition around here...

And, some of us prefer the "friendlier" nature of the DC forum, as opposed to the unruly ATOT, where 99% of the replies to a thread are "REPOST" (even if it isn't one), or some spelling correction, or of some other popular fad ("st@b her," "in soviet russia," etc.).

Grr. That thread served a purpose, and I don't think you're going to be making yourself popular around here by taking matters into your own hands like that.

SO who votes to make this a new nef thread?

even though you took one of my favorite threads away I still enjoy having a new "family" member. Welcome to the TeAm and the DC Forum!!!!
