Anyone notice me not around lately? (probably not Assim1! 😛)...

Well, I decided to install a new ceramic floor in my kitchen for my Wife's birthday. I had a 4 day weekend last month around the 17th or 18th....and thought I could remove old floor, clean up, install and grout new floor all before she returned from her 4 day trip. A month and a week later, I just finished all the cuts and have them mortared in! Removing the old floor was a pain in the rump and finally had to borrow a mini jackhammer to remove it. Moving all the appliances around and cutting this stuff is a pain in the @ss. The mortar and grout are also pains in the butt. I'm sure glad I don't do this for a living....I would be bankrupt on the first job! :Q

Thanks for listening...I've got to grout the rest of the floor and have it ready for Thanksgiving as I need the stove plugged back in to cook the turkey! 😉

I'll be around hopefully in the next week or so....just really busy right now! 🙂

4 day job = 35 and counting! :Q😛

Who are you again? 🙂 too bad you are not closer to me. I would have lent ya my industrial compressor and flooring jackhammer (made to do exactly what you did)

Oh, and by the way,

PICS!!

I'll get PICS as soon as I get my digital camera (if Dell ever ships it 😛). I had a friend bring over a 220V 30Gallon Tank compressor that we plugged into the Oven outlet. The jackhammer was more of a chissel hammer than the jackhammer. It took up the other 160 SQ/FT in about 7 hours. I had removed 10 sq/ft in about 3 hours using hammer and chissel. If you were closer, I could have just let you do the job! 😉

😛

Hey Robert, I had one of those great ideas this summer. Took my 2 weeks of vacation and set aside a week to reroof my house, complete strip off, replace some plywood sections, remove and replace den ceiling and insulation. Roof was a 3000 sq ft job, 2400 sq ft of dimensional and 600 sq ft of rolled roofing on the low sloped den at double coverage. Was planning to spend the next week up in Kansas City visiting my parents. After 2 weeks I still wasnt done, and it took a few weekends after that to get it all finished.

I feel your pain brotha... 😛

Do it yourself shouldnt always mean ALL BY yourself..

Robert, I too did just such a thing this last spring.

I was going to just slap pergo over the old flooring in the kitchen.

Then I thought, hey what about that 1926 oak flooring under all those layers of crap.

So I spent a lot of time, chipping stuff up with a hammer & chisel & then burnt out a sander and then finally got it finished after about 3 weeks.

Was it worth it?

Yes!

Would I do it again?

Depends on how much beer is involved 😉

Never, ever start a project thinking how long can this take🙂
I ended up spending almost 3 years working on a friends car because I agreed to help him restore it.
Thought to myself, how long can it take🙂

Dasm, sounds like a lot of projects I get involved with.

I should hire someone to kick me any time I say, "This is a piece of cake. Shouldn't take more than a couple of hours." 😛

😀

Congrats on getting it done, especially the old fashioned way, yourself.

You are very correct on both points. I would never attempt it again alone. Hot as hell is right, I had to go in and cool down every couple hours at least and drink tons of water. I worked from first glimmer of light till the last glimmer of light to get it all closed in. Hopefully Ill be way to old to try it next time it needs one. 😛
