OT: When you buy someone else's Video Card/Memory, do you get the warranty that goes with it?

For example, if you were to buy a card from a fellow ATer and you found out it was defective...a couple days after the deal (so its not DOA), what's the warranty on that, if any, with/without the receipt? And for a similar situation, Crucial memory is insured as a 'lifetime' warranty, but does that also take into effect when it exchanges hands between users? Just curious. LMK :) Thanks for any info

Nope.

In almost every case, the warranty is to the original purchaser (assuming it was originally bought from an authorized dealer). If the original purchaser is a certified reseller (by the company that made the product), then the warranty can usually be extended on the grounds of being a "floor model " or "Demo."

There are a few exceptions, but there is usually some notation in the docs that says the warranty is transferrable.

FWIW

well... i think stuff with lifetime warranty... it's usually pretty easy to rma. like most nic... if u have a problem with them... just call up the 800 # (or whatever rma dept) and usually, they try to troubleshoot the problem, and if they can't fix it, they send u a new one. thats my experience with netgear nics. they didn't ask for a reciept or anything... just a part number.

<< Right Spanky007, but video cards I doubt have lifetime warranties :D! >>

oh... about the memory... when u try to rma ram with crucial... i think they ask for the order #... so that might be a little tricky.

Right, and so if you didn't buy it from them...you're kinda screwed, aren't ya? (I'm worried more about the Video Card), and Samsung RAM :S
