OT: What is the best bang for the buck CPU/MB-wise for D2OL?

I'd like to build a couple inexpensive systems and get in on the D2OL DC. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the best CPU/MB combination is to run the client?

I would suggest XP 1800+ and ECS K7S5A running Red Hat / Mandrake, will get you near or over 100 cands a day.
The Intel chips only do well on Linux BTW and even then the XP's are still kicking big butt.

If your a Win32 user then very definatly go Athlon XP

I just put together a Celeron 1.2 Tualatin and Mandrake.. its doing almost as well as my P4 2.53 GHZ on Win2k

Slight clarification: AMD Athlon / Athlon XPs are going to be a good deal faster than Intel Pentium 4s in almost any situation where pure number crunching matters. Intel Pentium 3s are still pretty good (frequently better than Pentium 4s) in number crunching, but the Athlons do have a good advantage due to their higher speed, AFAIK.

Edit: it's a clarification, not a correction. Mardeth isn't wrong, he just wasn't very precise. 🙂
