OT: What benchmarking utility to use for linux os

Depends on what you want to benchmark. I use hdparm for HD benches, though that's not its primary purpose (btw, never figured out why everyone calls it HDD; that's Hard Disk Drive, which seems redundant to me, but anyway, I digress...). I've never really felt the need to benchmark anything else in Linux so I've not discovered any other utils.

why not use Quake III or Unreal ... 🙂

For actual content creation and such I wouldnt possibly know what to tell you.

Im about to use format C: on my main box... sheesh I just cant seem to enjoy it. I have Mandrake on 7 boxen for D2OL and thats fine but for everyday usage Im gonna run back to Win2K on the primary user box. sigh...... Old man just cant hang.

I have a 1600 that is performing the same as a p3 55o on d20l. Both on Mandrake 9.
I checked the bios for multiplier and bus settings and everything is good, so I want to benchmark the 1600 to see wtf is wrong.🙂
