Ya always gotta look out for those "this shouldn't take long" projects. Mine have almost always turned into something involved.
When we first moved into the house, the family room had these ugly fake styrofoam beams that were starting to come unglued from the ceiling. We thought heck, this shouldn't take long, just pull them down, sand the glue off, and paint. Hah!
There were holes hidden by the beams where they had run wiring in almost everyone, and right in the middle of the main support joist, they had taken a hammer and chiseled out a huge chunk of wood to let the electric wires go by (instead of drilling a neat small hole. The hunk missing was a bit more than half the width of the joist, and we had a water bed upstairs.
So, I had to tear out some ceiling and nail a sister joist to the existing one so we would have proper support.
The beams had also hidden where they had cut slots in the paneling to get the wires to the wall lamps. So we ended up having to remove one wall of paneling.
Patched all the holes, and ended up spackling on a new ceiling because of all the patches and glue crap. Then painting the entire room.
Needless to say, it took a
[/u]LOT[/i] than we had ever suspected. :Q
he drilled right into a copper water pipe inside the wall
Yeh, that WOULD be worse! :Q
