OT: - well I made the order - Newegg must love our TeAm!

Hey, maybe we could get a TeAm sponsor thing going?
"Sponsored by Newegg!" It's worth a try isn't it?

I decided to get a P4 2.8 Prescott & a ASUS P4P800-E DELUXE 865PE with 1G PC3500 & a Radeon 9600Pro, CDRW/DVD combo drive etc & a 17inch LCD 16ms monitor along with a pair of SATA 160GB drives to be run RAID 0. Should make a nice rig. 😉

Ok, there are lots of mobo choices out there.... need something stable, no worries, good performer but not going for any big OC. Anyone got preferences of a mobo to run a 2.8C P4?

Oh, the guy just decided he wants a RAID 0 mirrored drive setup in it, so what's it like setting up SATA RAID? (I am very familiar with using SCSI RAID) Is the ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe a good choice for this?

I need to build a new box for a client - thought a P4 with HT would be in order.
There is a limited budget, I saw these combos on Pricewatch - so anyone know & want to tell me the difference - at least which might be an HT enabled P4? What's a Prescott anyway?
Somebody already got a great setup rounded up?

The needs expressed by the client are:
good graphics card for doing some graphics content creation (photoshop) -no gaming-
1 GB ram
P4 HT
fast HDD
CDRW
17 inch LCD (<=25ms)

no doubt I will be running some kind of DC on there, whatever is least noticable to the end user 😉

Any P4Cs with an 800Mhz bus will have HT. There's also a 3.06Ghz P4 that runs on a 533Mhz bus that has HT enabled. Prescott is a new revision of the P4 based on the 90nm process. All Prescotts are HT enabled except for the ones based on the 533Mhz bus. So basically all 800Mhz bus P4s have HT enabled.

To expand , the Prescott isn't just a die shrink ,there's a lot more to it than that😉
Way to much for me to tell you here so I'll just give you a link,it does have more L2 cache & longer pipelines though

Look at this article by Anandtech 🙂

There's another article about its heat dissapation too but I haven't read that yet.

from everything i have read and heard from friends, the 2.8C Northwood is the best bang for your buck. i have the 2.6C and i love it to death. best computer investment ive ever made 🙂

"btw I prefered the old face"

I've been sick this week, the face will change back after I feel well again!

Can't go worng with an Asus mbrd 😀

Btw I couldn't help myself ,I just discovered how cheap XP2400's are now .........so I've ordered one😀..........hope its an overclocking monster😉

Hope you get better quick!
