I dunno. BIOS update? FSB? Strange indeed. I was gonna ask about a clean install of OS, but since it freezes at post, I dunno.

Oh, and I just LOVE the helpful 1st post there.

Maybe you mounted the HS/Fan wrong and heat is causing the chip to not be able to oc as well. Another possibility is that the new a7n8x board you got is a dud.

Have you tried a power supply with a beefy 5 Volt rail? This is a known situation with this board that it requires a lot of power on the 5 volts. Increasing the wattage of the power supply does not cut it.

I went backwards on a power suppy, a 450 to a 400 to my Nforce board to crank. The new Power supply is at least 6 times heavier because it uses a Torroidal Power Transformer for 5 volts. Look for Power Supplies that say "Enhanced 5 Volt" on the box.

I have "fixed" two other people that had this same problem and same board as I have and you have.

I proved it to a friend that his supply was marginal, in that it would boot and run but was so unstable I can't believe he put up with it for 6 months before finally calling me. I came over and knocked the timings in the bios for his 2600XP as far down as I could basically making it a 1700. Sandra showed the CPU wattage went from 152 Watts to 40 watts. He was then able to load a USB scanner program that he was never able to load so that proved to him that the 5 volt rail was the problem. He also said gee, thanks for the downgrade Dave :) . Next day went and got the same power supply I did which for him was drop from a 500 watt supply to the 400. He was then able to crank up to full CPU speed and Overclock as well.

It could be something as simple as the heatsink not seated as well as it was on the first board and getting hot. Motherboards vary widely in quality of components and you can get 2 of the same board and have widely different results, just like with processors. Voltage regulation on the board can vary widely as well.

Im curious why the wireless card didnt work on the first board.

The wireless card just died on the abit board (the abit board was dying itself).

I have an antec Tru 380 on that system.

any other ideas.

once again thank you everyone!

Wow, that Budman gut in your other thread is a total idiot, good thing I don't have Mod power, I'd at least give him a 2 week vacation.

Did you try a different power supply yet?

Have you tried dropping back to say 175fsb and a 10x mult then bumping up a couple mhz at a time to see where it's having trouble?
Are you running MBM to check cpu temp?

The trupower 380w should be plenty for that system, ive got 1 running my 2500+ @ 2.2ghz on the same board with 2hd's and 3 optical drives.
