Will a AMD 486DX4 processor work in an Socket 3 MB?

I only ask because I told my sister I would try and fix her new computer she bought at a garage sale. When I recieved it the CPU and heatsink were loose and bouncing around the case. The pins were only slightly bent though. The socket 3 is bigger and has more pins than the cpu. This predates my computer hardware experience, but it doesn't look like these go together. If it will work, which corner does the notched corner go in relation to the words "socket 3"?

Yes, socket3 is OK for a 486. The remaining pins are for P83 overdrive I think.
A corner is broken and has a dot on the processor. On the socket, there is a hole alone in a corner. Just put the corner with the dot (CPU) in the corner with the alone hole (socket). Am I clear enough ?...

Good news so far! Now - Which way does it fit on the socket, so the notched corner is by the "S" in "socket 3"?

Ok, your description makes sense, and that is kind of what I thought, but wanted to make sure before I burned a chip up. Unfortunately, it appears as though it doesn't work. If it worked before my sister paid 10 bucs for it(whole comp), it appears as though the chip did not survive bouncing around the case. I had to bend pins just to make it go in the socket. No beep, no video no nothin. DOA. No big worries though. The floppy, HD and network card were worth the money spent.
