OT: The sound of running water...

Just tried my hand at a water cooled set up. After years of listening to the whine of fans 24/7, the wife complaining of interupted sleep, I decided it was time to try. Now I'm treated to what sounds like a "water fall" --- you know, the things you put on your end table or such that have some means of water running/dripping down, to soothe the savage beast...

Anyway, after taking my time ( a first!) and 3 hours of double-checking everything ( this is my main cruncher after all ) I hit the button and wa-la...the only fan I could hear is the one I left in cause it had this really cool blue glow...

Temps are holding at 43c, FaH running, music playing, downloading...I feel like I just stepped out of a hot tub I'm so relaxed, course that has nothing to do with the 6 brews I've had celabrating a successful first time install. Plans for the future include an insulated bag with a frozen gel pack with a loop of the cooling hose runnig through it for those really hot summer days, can't wait to try it out!

Got to say, the whole thing went extremely well, after doing one, could almost do it blindfolded it was that easy ( most things are in retrospect ), and best? No leaks. Woot!!😀

lol Awesome stuff!! Glad to it all went so great! 😀

Ohh and yes it does indeed call for a celebration!😉

Cheers!

I'm going to have to wait a bit before I try my hand at a water cooled setup. Limited funds, three kids, and a stay at home spouse...you know the drill. I just can't afford to screw anything up. I have to admit, though, I'm looking forward to it and dying to give it a go. Is that so wrong?

Hey, that's great! 🙂 Glad it went well!

I'm glad you have the courage to try it out. Me, I think I'm too old school, been drilled in me for so long that electricity, water, and computer components don't mix well. Hehe. 😉

Congrats! Sounds 😉 nice!

Have a watecooled comp. Maintenance (preventing the grpwth of algae) is very important.
These buggers can clog up a cooler (did that for me). So, please follow the manufacturers mainenance recommendations. :sun:

Maintenance??? I have to do maintenance?? Awwww man

Actually, thanks for the heads up, instructions didn't talk about that at all. I'm using their "antifreeze" solution so the algae issue may be moot, but I'll look into it.

That is good. The liquid has to be exchanged regularly. The algae-killing compound has a time limit - mine was 6 months, and I forgot. After some time the temp started climbing. I thought that was a problem with more heat due to more demanding crunching (had switched DC projects). I was wrong: the CPU-cooler had a lot of green stuff growing - and that was a royal pain to remove - took a few hours. Now I am watching the time - and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Ya know, some times you can't see the forest for the trees. I had a little air trapped in the tank which was giving me the "gurgling" sound. I've been sleeping on a water bed for the better part of 25 years and know that you have to purge the air in it or everytime you move it...dare I say it...GURGLES!! DUH! So, a little more solution, some judious tapping on the tank, and...

silence. Ahhhh. Now me knows for next time

Dasm! Now it's almost too quiet! Better check it to make sure I haven't lost any speed or power! 😀
