OT: Sorta...Mars to be closest (ever?) to Earth

Yeah, I've been watching it get more and more brilliant over the past few months.
It's amazing, it is as bright (or brighter) than I've ever seen Jupiter or Venus right now.
Makes me want to buy another telescope! 😉

Hey guys, that's why the two Mars Explorer ships were launched this month to take advantage of the closest point to earth, saved a lot of time off the trip.

Cool!...will it be visible accross Europe too?

Yes.
At present i'm not sure what time Mars rises, but go outside around local midnight & you should be able to see it towards the South. Very bright & very red!

Yeah... it is pretty neat... If you got a fairly decent telescope you can see the polar ice caps just don't expect to see much of anything else... It's not that close! 😉

shouldn't they have sent them off 2 months ago? it takes a while to reach that distance, even with us being so close.
