OT: Sorta... Going from Win98 to NT4

I'm posting this in DC because this computer is a SETI cruncher 🙂. Right now at my dad's office there is a nt4 server and 3 win98 clients. I'm am getting sick and tired of Win98 crashing and all of the network problems associated with it :disgust:, so I picked up a copy of Windows NT Workstation 4.0. What I need to know is if I can install NT4 over 98 and keep all programs, etc. intact? I saw here that you can, but others have told me I can't

. Is it possible?

Thanks in Advance, micron

Because of the number of crashes you reported and the fact that NT uses a different registry layout, your best bet would be to make a backup of your data files and install NT4 from scratch.

micron - my work machine has windoze 95 and NT4 setup as a dual boot. This is preferably done on another partition on the drive (the 9x always being on C:\). However, if you want, you could "full install" NT in the 98 partition (if you have enough space) since NT puts its stuff in the /winnt folder whereas 9x puts it in /windows. NT would control the booting. You'd need to "refresh" your program installs in order to register them in the NT registry. 🙂

[EDIT: Of course, you could always ditch the 'doze and.... well...heh.. 😛]
