OT question about the XBox.

I can understand hacking a chip on the board or bypassing certain stuffs...
But a friend of mine wants to mod his by adding a bigger HD.

What exactly will putting in a bigger HD serve? Or better yet, what is the current hard drive in there for anyway?

I don't have the slightest clue really.
I think the XBox was a waste of money in the first place. He has a P4 2.26GHz with a Ti4400 and SB Audigy2. I seen no need to get the XBox. I tried talking him out of it and buy games for his PC instead.

But he would not listen to reason... now he even wants to dump more money into it 😕.

By modding it, you can save the games to the hard drive, rather than needing to load the DVD all the time. It will speed up loading times in games, as it uses the HDD rather than the DVD drive 🙂 You can also transfer more of your own music over for listening to in games 🙂

With a mod chip, and a bigger HD, your friend can rip DVD disks to his harddrive, and play it from there. Meaning, he doesn't have to purchase the game to keep playing it, just put it in once, rip it, and thats that.

Current HD to to save extra content (new maps/characters/whatever), saving mp3s for custom playlists for music in game, and saving games with pretty much, unlimited space.

He could also make it a custom divx/mp3/emulator system with certain mod chips.

Don't underestimate the X-Box. Although it may be slow specs wise, it is not a slow platform. The games are awesome too.

Granted I don't have one myself (PC is good enough), but if I had extra money an X-Box would be up there on my wish list.
