OT: PM newbie

Senior member
I've never PM'ed before and maybe this will be helpful to others in the forum...so here goes. Be gentle please. Anywho, how does one pricematch? Do I goto into the store w/ my add from the internet or B&M and say, "Hey, can you pricematch this for me?" What strategies have you found useful in errr..."stretching"...PM's that sounds too good to be true. Thanks for the input everyone.

RaWk: You've posted 42 messages so far. You aren't really a newbie any more so any flaming (in my opinion) is well deserved. Please read the forum rules to see what is allowable to post and what is not...

Maybe the masses will forgive this member and be able to let one of these posts go without the requisite 27 "lock this" or "lock-o-rama" messages...

but I wouldn't bet on it ..

back on topic, i suppose -- people have said that if you are trying to pricematch a place with both a B&M and an online store, it is better to try it with the online store -- you have a better selection of CSR's that can help you. If you try it at a store, then whatever the manager/asst. manager says is mostly final. if you call, say Staples, you can keep calling until you get a winner..

cheers,

I find having an AK-47 slung over my shoulder while asking for the PM to be most helpful....

Ok, thanks all...I apologize for taking up the 3/4" on your screen to display the title of my post...

there is a discourse by Hawkeye in the "how do I " thread all about price matching, worth a read.

The best way to PM items to a good price is walk in and immediately ask for the manager. Make up a price for the item you want then subtract $10.00. Tell the manager you saw it "at another store for [made up price]."

When they ask where, tell them you forgot. They generally take your word on it without any questions.

Some managers have even commented they saw it lower somewhere else and they'll knock another $10 off.
