I too looked at the pictures first, and I was showing them to MrFluffy, and told him it looked like it fell off a truck. Mainly due to the pic showing the scratches on the side, reminded me of when a horn cabinet from an Altec Lansing speaker system fell off a truck after a gig. It had a corner scrunched and scratches very similar. :Q
If the hard drives pass checkdsk, scandisk tests, and seem to work ok, they should be fine, they are fairly durable these days. Hard drives have come a long way since you had to be sure to use the "park" utility before moving them.
