OT: Pesky Space Shuttle?

Could have sworn I heard the trademark double sonic boom of the space shuttle a second ago...... Did it finally land? In California?

if you live close enough the the flight(glide) pattern and live in a upstairs apartment that thing can scare the shtuff outta ya!! once that thing came down at about 4AM, I was sitting at my comp all was nice and quiet then BA BOOOOM!!!!! felt like the whole apartment jumped off the ground. but those night launches are pretty awsome.

You think that was bad? I was @ work at Home depot here in chicago when 2 F-16's flew over the store going quite a bit faster than the speed of sound. This was when that kid tried to break into a cockpit of a 747 landing @ ohare.

The planes few at just about 1,000 feet, and set off every car alarm in the parking lot. Like 75 alarma all going off at once!

Those booms were sweet! First time I ever heard a sonic boom.

I remember a time back in '89 when that Shuttle Double-boom knocked the power out for parts of LA!

I was watching the televised landing of the Shuttle in Mojave when the announcer said:
"Ok we should hear the double boom just about *POWER OUT*"

What exactly is this "double boom"? I reckon it's 2 sonic booms 1 right after another, but what causes it?

actually most(all?) aircraft do make 2 sonic booms but they are so close together you only percieve(hear/feel) 1 boom. the shuttle is much bigger and less aerodynamic so the BOOMs get seperated much further apart. thus making them(both "booms") much more distinct. I'm sure NASA and/or google has some intersting stuff on this.
