OT: PC Mag, free subscription scam

A while back there was a "hot deal" for a free 1 year subscription to PC Magazine. I signed up. Yesterday i got a f'in BILL for $25.00. What the hell is that? Anyway, im obviously not paying it. Anyone else run into this??

No bill yet for my subscription. You better write Cancel on the bill and mail it in if you don't want to pay.

I've been receiving PC Mag for free for a few months now, forget where I signed up, and never has received a bill. You can just call them up if you were billed saying it should be free, they'll just cancel your subscription and you can keep the free issue you received.

yea, me too. this is is starting to worry me.

I did the same deal, and got the same bill a year later. Called my bank and disputed the charge. End of story.........🙂

(That deal has since expired but they replaced it with one offering a rate of $1 an issue.)

If so, what is that name of the company that sent you the bill?

Are you sure that it's not an unrelated subscription offer made up to look like an invoice?

I received my first issue under the above deal a few days ago but I haven't received a bill yet. If I do get billed I will just cancel the subscription.

me 2..but im not going to pay. I didn't use my credit card when i subscribed, so im not worrying 🙂

I used to subscribe to PC Mag and it was pretty decent, didn't feel it was worth money though. I'm currently getting my free subscription of Computer Shopper & Sports Illustrated thx to ATHD, and I must say I think that the computer shopper is much better then PC Mag. Better reviews, if only they were a little more up to date. The new april issue that just arrived in my box a couple days ago mentions nothing of the new Geforce 4's, and in their reviews they still proclaim the "brand new Geforce 3 Ti500!"

Did your subscription run out?

The fine print on a lot of the free mags requires you
to actively cancel the subscription at the end of the year.

Otherwise they will bill you at the regular undiscounted rates.
