OT: New Rig Suggestions?

I'm thinking about building me a new rig soon, and I can't decide what I want to do. I already have a dually rig, so I don't really need another one 😉

My main rig is currently:

Epox 8k5a2+
XP 1600+ (10.5 x 172 = ? )
512mb Crucial PC2700

The rest I plan to keep intact. I have been thinking of either an nforce2/barton setup or maybe a p4 setup, but I know nothing about Intel motherboards, so what would you guys suggest? I'm going to be running SoB on it 🙂

I'd suggest an nforce3/Opteron system, but unfortunately the former isn't out yet. 🙁

My main rig was an AMD, just did one of the IS7/P4C deals because 1) it's good at Seti and 2) good tired of just AMD stuff, wanted to get back into the Intel scene, I hadn't fooled with Intel since the Celery 633/950 era.

I doubt there is any speed difference any of us can see while surfing or gaming, they are all fast. The NForce2's are probably every bit as stable as an Intel rig, lots of RAM issues with the 865/8785 overclocking, and the PAT on 865's is as f%$^ed up as anything you'll encounter with AMD. But I'm glad I went the Intel route (I poor-boy'ed it, P4C, IS7 and Crucial RAM), cost difference wasn't too bad and it was fun to do something different and you can spend hours tinkering with overclocking settings if you want to.

Having both a P4 and a XP system, I say I prefer the AXP system. Given the chance, i'd wait til the nForce3 and Opteron combos are out 🙂😉
