So what's the verdict on the neffing threads? Were they slowing down the database? I have some "professional" interest in your findings.

Longer threads have existed in other VBulletin forums, proving that the neffing threads have never been the true fault of the forum's sluggishness.

Not true. As soon as that 100K monster was removed, things changed visibly around here.

The neffing threads will not be allowed to go to that length anymore.

Thanks for the update. Things seemed a bit smoother, but I've been having net issues in general, so I couldn't be sure how much was me, and how much was AT.

Again, it is not the neffing threads that are the true cause of the sluggishness. They are at most revealing an underlying problem.

Say what you will. There might be another related, problem but the removal of that huge thread made an instant difference

edit:

You just linked to a thread with 111546 posts over 7+ years that averages out to 15,935 posts per year or 43 posts per day.

That nef thread we had was 97,897 posts over 2 years. That's 143 posts per day. I can recall that some days there were close to 1000 posts per day by the membership.

No way can you tell me that this sort of posting, constantly had nothing to do with it.

edit:
As a matter of fact from 10-13-10 to 12-30-10, a span of 78 days, we went from 72640 to 97899 posts. That is an average of 323 posts per day.
