OT:Need a hardware Mouse lock

welp we seem to be having a problem with students stealing the mice off of the computers, ( I have no clue why because they are the only ones who use them and oce they loose the mouse we turn them off for good) anyways I would like to prevent the theft in the first place. is there a peice of Hardware that will lock the mouse onto the case? or somehow make it nearly imposible to remove with out a key of some sort.

SuperGlue the cable to the case. Note: the cable, not the plug!

That or explain the problem to the Dean/Governing Board and have them threaten to raise everyone's tuition rates!!

You could also use cable ties as a more simple solution. It is rather difficult to cut without a knife.

Dkappos I thought about that too, but with out abundent supply of sissors and that they have alredy cut the wire ties we had holding the hubs in place (under the desk now they are on the floor) I dont think that will be very effective 🙁

Narzy, If the mouse breaks, you cut the cable and replace it. That's why I SuperGlue the cable and not the plug. If you do decide to do it leave enough slack so that you can unplug the mouse after it's glued.

At the HS in the district where I work, the kids usually just take the balls, so we paint the cover with clear nail polish and then close it up. works like superglue. When the whole mouse is gone, especially the wheel mice, it usually turns out to be a teacher that's stealing them!

WHile I was digging through a pile of scrapped computers today looking for some floppy drives to salvage, I found some old IBM brand mice that had clips, some metal and some plastic, near the plug end of the mouse cable that had a case screw through them securing them to the case. I'll try to get a picture on Monday. Looks like a pretty good idea.

this is such a pain we are a school of 90 students and are built around trust, the school building is so small we can't fit any lockers, now I have to watch my bag double close 🙁
