My dual 1800 TigerMP died (I got in on the $129 refurb deal), it wouldn't work with the second cpu in it. New egg doesn't have anymore and they are refunding my money.
So I have two 1800's sitting here doing nothing. Any suggestions on what other board or board's I should buy with that $129?

Sorry to hear about your dualie's death :(

Here are some places that have a good price on the Tiger MP:

Linky 1
linky 2
Linky 3

I know they are more than $129.00 but $168-173 is pretty close. You might want to verify this guys with reseller ratings before you purchase as I have not ordered from them before.

I assume you did test both CPUs to make sure it's not just a dead CPU?

If you've got Registered ECC memory, then one other option would be a Shuttle AK31A, which is a KT266A board that's relatively inexpensive and supports R-ECC modules.

If you have standard DDR, then you might look at the new KM266 boards, which are KT266A with onboard video added, and some have onboard LAN also. Fast, cheap and practical, if you have enough power supplies and leftover components to piece together two complete crunchers.

If you're considering getting a new TigerMP, you might consider getting a retail-boxed new one from a top-rated vendor who'll stand on his head for you. ;)

I've used the gigabyte dual with raid and the ASUS and the Tyan Tiger and unfortunately all of these boards are not ready for prime time. Even Tyan won't work with RAID cards and hopes another bios should do it. But Tyan has been out the longest and still has issues and Tyan doesn't release the issues to the public till after you have purchased the board and ask them why something doesn't work. As for Gigabyte my opinion is that they are having problems with the bios in other more popular boards and are diverting time away to these other issues and are not putting out half baked ideas/products also Gigabyte is apparently in on the Opteron AMD processor and so why not shove other stuff back. Continuing on I got an email where one employee didn't have his head on correct and was confused about AMD XP and MP processors. Also Taiwan knows more than the people in the US and with time zone stuff it takes a 3 day weekend basicly for tech support. As for ASUS I had the floppy section go bad and also ?AXIONtech.com? in texas no longer carries the dual board cause of to many problems.

I have a 2466n-4m board that has the fixed USB but like I said promise raid cards don't work and some other venders.

My opinion is if you got MP processors from newegg send them back and save your money for the opteron AMD processor.

The Gigabyte with onboard raid has other flaws/bugs for use as a serious server.

All of this is very unfortunate for AMD

mechBgon - it worked for about 30 hrs before it failed. I swapped cpu's, no luck, would power up but not boot. Tried cpu's in other machines and they both work fine.

Since I originally posted...I've been looking around at all my misc parts and I was beginning to wonder, why not start building a rack and put it in my garage for the summer.

I have 4 of the gc-48's on hand/substituted the thermaltake variable fans for the originals
I have a bunch of 250 watt psu's (would they be enough to run an 1800 with no hard drive)
I already have one ecs k7s5a running, if someone has figured out how to make the ecs k7s5a network boot, then I could pick up a few more of those and get ready to build my rack.

I just need pointers on how to do the netboot right. I've seen bits and pieces of people talking about, but haven't seen anyone that says they did it.
