OT: Moving...

We (my parents and I) are still getting stuff unpacked, but things have started to get back to normal; thus, I've been able to get the computers up and crunching again and have also just recently been able to come around here with a bit more frequency (whether that's a good thing or not is up for debate 😉).

Moving is always fun...

Throughout the process, my thoughts progressed somewhat as follows:
  1. Where is the ______? Oh, it's already been taped in that box over there. 🙁
  2. Now where did I put the ______? Crap, it must have been one of the 10% of things that have already been carried to the other house. :frown:
  3. So which freaking house is the _____ in this time? :|
  4. So you mean the $%&*ing _____ got left behind at the old house? :disgust: :| :frown:
  5. Whew! Almost all of the boxes are unpacked. Oh, wait, I need the _____ and it's under that half-ton stack of boxes in the corner behind all the furniture. 🙁 :frown: :disgust:

Another lesson: if you or a family member has some critical medication, please put it all in one well-marked box, and inform everyone that if that box is seen, it should always be placed on top of everything else (unless you want to spend half a day frantically searching for the buried treasure, er, heart medicine).

Of course, there were always plenty of minor annoyances, like on Sunday morning, when I was looking for my good pants but could not find them. I ended up "having" to wear jeans to church, much to my parents' displeasure (aw, darn 😉).

Oh, and lesson #3 - it sucks to have to paint a non-well-insulated room with an exterior wall in winter in a cold climate. The bad part about putting the rest of the paint job in my room off until spring, is that I will then have to remove the computers for the duration of the painting, and loose several precious days worth of CPU power. 😱

And the good news is... I should be able to get DSL (of course, only if the lines check out ok). SBC has a deal where you can get "up to" 1500/128 (or is it 1500/256?) for US$26.95 per month. Hopefully later this month or early next month I'll be able to order it and finally have some "real" internet access. 😀

Anyway, enough rambling for now... happy new year, and happy crunching! 😎

ahhh, the (mis)adventures of moving........
I feel your pain J. Over 10yrs ago I moved 1000 miles away from Home. Still homesick after all this time, but the thought of moving back is extremely disuading. If I never move again it will be too soon!
Glad you are up and running again! Crunch on!

I feel your frustration

Some people are just natural Nomads 😛

As for me....................Been here 17 Yrs......(after five moves)........faught tooth and nail to stay here.............................morgage payments, land taxes..................................... neighbors complaining my dogs are barking :disgust:

But it's all worth, it in the end. Stability and security...................................It's what all should try to achieve 🙂

Just Chalk it up to a learning experience 😉

Good luck getting settled in. I know what you mean we have lived here for almost two years....still painting and unboxing but nearly done.

Moving sucks!

Fun fun fun!
Good luck, try not to lose anything, and be careful to avoid hurting your back! (my dad still can't find one of his books - it's an extremely voluminous one, so I've got no idea how he lost it). 😱

Well, this house will need some "fixin" also... My room has only one outlet, and it isn't in the best of shape (it's an old one, without a ground plug). Of course, it's on the opposite wall from where my computer has to be (for the phone cord to reach through the door to the phone jack on the other side), so I run a heavy-duty extension cord across the floor (good thing I've got an UPS 😉).

Oh, and there's no shower, and the bathtub nozzle is a really weird kind that you can't find any hose-shower thingy to fit, so I have to hook a hose up to the sink, and take a pseudo-shower while seated in the tub. :frown:

This place definitely has its quirks (some of which can't be fixed when one rents 🙁), but it's mostly better than where I was before (including the DSL 😛).

Hiya J!! 🙂
Glad to hear you're settling in and that things are looking better for you ( dsl--woot!). Once you get all the work done and get back into a boring routine <voice of the Oracle>"you'll feel right as rain"<end voice of the Oracle>.😛🙂

Built my current house in 74, been here ever since. Planning on rebuilding in the next 5 years and moving one last time (hopefully). Gonna be a major purge of stuff when we do, got way too much junk.

Anyway, glad to hear you're about settled and making the scene again...😀
