Its actually quite nice and since i have it running it found everything except the marvel yukon ethernet driver.but suprisingly the time I spent on the linux server makes understanding the install easier (driver untar etc...)

anyway I finally have the prescott up and running at least:p

If Mandrake comes with Open Office, as Red Hat does, it is part of that suite.
Welcome to Linux!

I didn't think it would take you too long...

A Paint program? Try running 'gimp', that should be installed.. Although I don't know which version comes with the package, 2.0 is available..
Have fun with a nice Linux distro! :)

I've tried three different versions of Mandrake without luck. Linux support for wireless cards sucks, or the driver availability does at least.

Gimp is cool. As long as you don't need fancy color management and stuff, it is a nice Photoshop semi-replacement. Not to mention that it's free (legally)... :cool:

true and kpaint is easy to resize a pic as well

its actually like my pre windows days. I am such a newbie

Installing the driver for the ethernet adapter was pretty simple lol
But:
I log on to the konsole in mandrake and select root (obviously this isn't the true root LOL) and i cannot find the hdd files.(still looking for a way to add flash:(
Can anyone point me to the real root folder/access and tell me how to restart the kde graphics if i turn them off again?

Flash will work with Netscape/mozilla/firefox.... Havent heard of it working in KDE... but thats a guess. I am sure you could just download it , su untar and run the install script....

To install the Flash Player plug-in for Linux via an install script, follow the directions below. Note: This installer is script-based and cannot be run from a GUI.

1. Download and uncompress install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz.
2. After uncompressing the file, a directory called install_flash_player_7_linux is created. Navigate to this directory.
3. From the command line, type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer. The installer will instruct you to shut down your browser(s).
4. Once the installation is complete, the plug-in will be installed in your Mozilla browser. To verify, choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser's menu.

To manually install the plug-in for Linux, copy the following files to your browser's plugins folder:

* libflashplayer.so
* flashplayer.xpt

Uninstall instructions

To remove the Flash Player plug-in for Linux:

For root users:

1. Quit the browser.
2. Navigate to the browser's plug-in directory (i.e. /usr/local/mozilla/plugins).
3. Remove the following files:
* libflashplayer.so
* flashplayer.xpt

For non-root users:

1. Quit the browser.
2. Navigate to your home directory and locate the folder named .mozilla.
3. From that folder, open the folder named plugin and remove the following files:
* libflashplayer.so
* flashplayer.xpt
* x-shockwave-flash.desktop
