Is that a 120mm on the cpu heatsink?
i believe that's a 80mm on the cpu?
Both wrong 🙂😛 It's a 92mm fan 🙂 I took the old dead 60mm fan, and ripped all the gubbins out so that i just had the frame, and duct taped 2 sides of it to 2 sides of the 92mm Adda fan. That way it's far enough off the FOP heatsink so there's no dead spot, and it's also cooling the north bridge, as that's not active 🙂 (If i have to turn comp off today then i will take a pic of the creation 🙂)
The second pic is of the 120mm blowhole on the top, pic 3 shows the 2x 92mm fans on the front, down on the metal behind the 2 80mm holes on the front bezel. There are 3x 60mm holes above it, and those and the 2x 80mm holes are going to have chrome fan grills on them. There will (more than likely) be a 120mm grill on the top fan, and i might even put grill on the 92mm on the heatsink! 🙂
I did have all this stuff in a Supermicro AT case (modded to be ATX) and that's a little taller than this case but not quite as deep - in the SM case the neon had to sit at about a 20 degree angle, whereas in this it's about 5 degrees up, it's close enough to flat for me! 🙂 But it all seems less crowded in this case!
It is a very close fit for the 120 on top, when i measured it i had a different PSU in the box, and my Enermax one has a little bit sticking out from the top, obviously to attach it to some certain cases, but i had to whack that with a hammer to give it clearance for the fan! :Q Well at least it dislodged all the dust in it! 🙂
I have 3 case fans, 2 in the PSU, and 1 on the CPU. At the moment the temp of the Athlon 1.0@1.33 (1.5 when i can flash the BIOS - maybe opportunity to take that pic i said i would above..?) @1.85V without any perspex or anything in the window (open case basically) is 49 degrees, which is below my personal limit of 55! 🙂
The case was a cheapy £20 one from computer fair, which i am in the process of painting, i'm going for mirror finish, i need another coat or 2 of the black, then i need to clear coat it. I will probably also cut out some of the metal in front of the hard drive and behind the 3x 60mm holes so that some of the light shines through from the neon out of those holes as well. I might even also attempt to vinyl dye the CD-RW black as well, or just stealth it with the other drive bay cover 🙂
Actaeon - if you are getting bored with your case then you could just spend some time modding it! 🙂 It's great fun, and you can really make it how you want, and customise it 🙂 So far it has been on-going for about 2 months, but i have not had much time for it (exams, moving house), but by far the longest thing is the paint! The window took me about an hour with a Dremel (borrowed from my dad...now 110 miles away back in Colchester where i moved from so can't borrow that again easily!) after thinking of the design, which started as a square drawn on the side of the case which i went to round the corners, then just thought about making it all rounded and flowing, and that's where that shape came from!
Keep those comments on a rollin 🙂
