Sorry I was so blunt. The Celeron is not the centrino at all. $800 is cutting it close, but $100 more you should be getting a nice centrino set-up. It really comes down to if you need it right now or can you wait. I checked briefly and saw a Dell 700m for just over $900 with a 1.8 centrino, 512mb ram, 40gb hard drive, dvd/cdrw combo. I dunno how that compares to other deals b/c I havn't been watching the laptop prices.
Ill be back later and do a search to see If I can find something better than the 700m
FYI: centrino is not a cpu. it should be Platinum M 1.8ghz.

If we're getting technical...platinum eh? lol. Pentium M = centrino
For a $1k, I would personally rather have the HP DV notebook.
For $950
1.8 Pentium M
5125mb DDR
80GB HD
DVD/CDRW combo
For $800
3.06 P4 w/HT
512mb DDR
60GB HD
DVD/CDRW combo
Those are both dells, that CPQ from OD is decent though you would want to upgrade to the 64bit and 512mb most likely.

Yet another correction Pentium M doesnt necessarily equal a Centrino. A laptop with Centrino technology is a combination of the Pentium M, Intell 855 chipset, and Intel 802.11 b/g.
The title Pentium-M label was around long before Centrinos were even talked about. Although the true statement is Pentium M for a Centrino laptop incorrect marketing labels have called the Pentium III M and Pentium 4 M a "Pentium M".
So if you want to make sure ur looking at a centrino you have to look for the the centrino logo or for it to specifically say "Centrino".
Thats why on commercials you hear them say new laptop with centrino technology not "centrino processor"
