Over the past few years, almost every single WD hdd that I have ever owned, or was passed on to by family or friends, has died. I have probably RMA'ed about 12 to 15 hard drives to them. However, the only thing that I like about them is their website's Advanced RMA Service.
Standard RMA: you send in your dead hard drive, they send you back one
Advanced RMA: they send you a new hard drive, you send in your dead one.
The good thing about this is they give you a box with a label to send back your hard drive (so you don't have to worry about standard packing procedures). Also, the turn around time for the whole process is usually less than a week.
Example: I request RMA on 7/28, my new hdd arrives 7/30, I send my dead one back on 8/1, fin.
The last two hard drives I sent back this month were even manufactured that day. The one used in the example had a date of 7/29!
CLIFF NOTES: WD Hard drives SUCK but they have good RMA service
edit: Topic summary disappeared for some reason
