OT: Killer upgrade for old AT systems

I just noticed that Newegg is selling a Pentium III, Celeron2 motherboard that fits into an AT case!!! Its only $65.

Picture!

It is the EPOX EP-3VWB+. I looked at EPOX website and its listed as a Baby AT case.

It has built in sound video, and USB support. Anyone try this out? Seems like a killer upgrade for old machines, especially it it could support the new Celeron 1.0A processor (I'm not usre it it will, however). Too bad they don't make a AMD version..

I'd be more tempted to get a cheap ATX xase and throw a K7S5a with Duron into it. 🙂

That's offer much better upgradability in the future.

And here I just sent my old AT system to narzy for his ROCK (Recycled Old Computers for Kids) program. Oh well, I'm sure the kid who got my P233/64MB will make better use of it than me upgrading it for SETI. 🙂

Thanks for the heads-up tho!

Yeah, your probably right about just getting a cheap AMD system

Epox 3VW + Celeron 900 MHz = $140.19 Shipped

For cheap AMD system from NewEgg:

Shuttle MK20 (includes LAN) + 1 GHz Duron + Cheap ATX (AMD Approved) = $ 160.42 Shipped

Going for the cheap AMD system is better overall, for speed & upgradability, but the EPox 3VW would be great if you have a spare celeron cpu lying around.

I just did a real cheap upgrade from a celron to 1.2 duron. Biostar M7VKS $49.00 and a 1.2 duron from newegg for $79.00 and hard to believe it but it is doing 5 WU's a day beating my athalon 1.2. going to do another one later today.
