Just thought I would say hi from up here at Camp Ripley MN. As some of you have heard, I got a new job working for the state. They have me up here doing some training and I found their computers. :D So I just had to say hi. I get to spend the rest of this week up here. :(

If anyone knows anything about this place, it's a 53,000 acre military base. Kinda reminds me of my time at Fort Jackson SC. Tomorrow 2000 troops are coming here for their final training before heading out to IRAQ and AFGANISTAN next week. So it should be interesting to see a lot of people coming onto the base. Plus, we get to drive trucks around the tanks. :D

This gives you all another reason why I haven't hung around here much the last few weeks.

Just to keep this a little on topic, these computers are not even worth throwing a DC client on them. They are all win95 machines with little more then a 486. I am suprized to even see a cd rom on these computers.

Anyways, I hope to be here again in full force in the next couple weeks.

Best of luck Wolfie.

Good point, wonder what the plan is for other arms of the services to replace the aged PC's.

The Navy and Marines have the NMCI project that is replacing all the PC's with new Dell's.

I was in charge of a crew of 25 Techs to install about 2,000 new PC's here near Atlanta.

Someone I know (a civilian) who works at a military location (does not work for NMCI, but has to deal with them because they administer the computers in this person's office) does not have a very favorable opinion of NMCI. Then again I suppose the "patch that was installed before being tested extensively ends up breaking something critical to my everyday work and we take weeks to figure out what's wrong and weeks more to fix it" thing happens in all large computer networks. :(

Thanks guys/gals. I made it home today and I feel a lot better then I don't have to eat the food anymore. It was horrible.

MedicBob

I am not sure if it was as bad as Ft. McCoy or not. I have never been there.

Thanks Ray But you know how I am about computers. :D

NWM I would be doing better if I wasn't having the after affects of the food.
/me runs to the bathroom for the 5th time today

Now for two more weeks of training (at least) and I can finaly get to the work I was hired for.

If you all don't know what I was hired for, I was hired for the Minnesota Dept of Transportation Maintance Dept. So I get to fix guard rails and also plow snow in the winter. :D And that is what the training was for. Learning how to drive the plow trucks the way "they" want you to. They don't care how many years you have had experiance.

Anyways, I am up late, tired, and just glad to be home.

Hey Wolfy.....If you want to learn how to plow Snow , you need to come where I live....Upstate New York.

:D

One of the biggest problems we face here is, where to put new snow after you.ve plowed a few times.:disgust::eek:
