My engineering teacher just emailed me and told me I have a D in the class. He said his records show that I didn't submit the main assignment(35% of the grade) of the semester. I did however submit it and recieved a email confirming that he got the assignment. I don't know how many of you remember but a little while back I was having some computer trouble which is why my output was so low for a while (sorry guys) and I had to format my hard drive. There went my proof that he got the assignment and that I actually emailed it.

Is there any way I can send proof that I sent and recieved these emails.

I have an @home account

email address is mrstihl@home.com

I would really appreciate any help you guys could offer.

Unfortunatley, there's no way for you to recover those e-mails. The format and then reinstall of Windows made recovery from the HD extremely unlikely, and @Home doesn't keep mail.

Thanks for the quick reply. Still have hope though. It's scarry looking a D in the face especially when you should have gotten something like an A or B

Rendus is correct about the hard drive. Since the format and install, the likely hood of recovering the email from the hard drive is extremely slim.

I don't know about @home keeping emails. I do know that Road Runner keeps the emails on their server if you select that option in your setup, but the default setting is to remove them from their server upon delivery to your email client.

That really sucks about the grade, and the teacher claiming not to have gotten your homework assignment. :(

Good luck in getting it resolved in your favor.

In my experience, whether @Home kept e-mails or not depended on what e-mail client I used. When I used Netscape Messenger, once I downloaded an e-mail, it wouldn't be kept on the server anymore, but when I used Outlook 2000, it always kept the e-mails on the server, even when I deleted them. It was a real pain, because there was some weird bug that would happen where it would all of a sudden just think that the 500 messages sitting on the server were brand new, and they would all show up again in my mailbox.

well, I am using outlook express 6. If for some reason there are old copies of my emails floating around out there what could I do to tell outlook express to get them so to speak?

This might not be too much help, but if he sent you a message confirming that he received the assignment, shouldn't he have a record of sending that message on his machine? Could you ask him to do a thorough check to see if he has a record of that confirming message?

As an @home customer, I wouldn't put any faith in their email system for anything important, by the way...

Good luck!

ah forgot to mention that part. I already asked about that and he doesn't have his old emails because he switched from i believe compuserve dialup to @home since this all happened.

Arrrgggghhhhhhh! You would think that for something this important he would have forwarded all mail to a university account and used that for all responses and such just to prevent a situation like this. Sorry, Fingers, but I don't have any good suggestions for you.

You should still have, I'm assuming, the project details that you submitted. Would he accept a "late" resubmission with a small penalty (1/2 a letter grade or something) just so that you can avoid the "D?" When I was teaching at a university, I probably would have done something like that...

well, I know that grades have already been due and report cards are on there way out. It's worth a shot to see if I can redo it. Anybody think I have any chances of talking tot he dean and seeing if I might be able to get somewhere that way.

Yeah, go yell at the Dean. You did everything currect, he screwed up, and now you're getting screwed. :|

Have you changed the file since you sent it in? If not, right click on it, go into the properties, and then print out a screenshot of the modification date.

Of course, even if he had modified the file since then, a disk editor can still be one of your best friends. :D
