Can someone help me please? I'm trying to install a modem in my gf's parent's computer (win some browny points ;) ) and it's not working!
It's a USR sportster ISA modem set to Com 2 IRQ3. I disabled serial port 2 in Bios (d'uh). But I still get a "turn your modem on" message when i try dialing with it. How do I get this friggin modem to work properly?
Help me out please.

Post this in the technical support forum. The people there will help you out.

... but in the meantime, go to the Control Panel and double click Modems. Make sure your USR modem is installed there. Click over to the second tab and get the info from your modem. See if it's able to communicate with the modem. If it can, then you have everything installed properly with no IRQ conflicts, etc. I guess after that it could just be a software incompatibility issue with your ISP or something.

Maybe a silly q, did you reboot? Try doing the install from Windows, y'know...control panel>add new hardware. I had a similar problem w/ my brother's modem and it turned out that windows didn't build a driver base the first time I installed.

i've rebooted a few times, My computer says that the modem is installed properly, but yet when I try to use it, my comp says that it can't communicate with it. I tried installing a different ISA modem, same problem.. tried an SB16 ISA, that worked, so it's not the slot. it's at moments like these that I swear I'm going to quit playing w/ computers all together! :(
