Hi all,
In all actuality I came back yesterday but...I took a 4 day trip to New Orleans. Granted my last day was when I spent 13 hours in 2 airports as 2 consecutive flights I was booked on were canceled but I digress...
Coming from New England I thought 90 degrees with 60 % humidity was hot.
Well how about 95 every single day, only sunny, and 90% humidity? Heat index? 105-110 every day.
Bourbon street turned me off. Now i'm 20 so you would think I should have loved it...but...It smelled like urine and garbage, was full of hustlers, idiots, weirdos from tiny small-town areas that when placed in a "free" environment lose their mentality. I saw the heart of the French quarter as cheesy, cheap, and completely unappealing.
Much of the city is in dis-repair, but improving, with neighborhoods literally potch-marked. Zoning regulations have opulent $400,000 homes right next to slums. Sort of disheartening.
The highlights then you might ask?
-The food of course!
-The actual natives (and not the idiot tourists)
-The weather (I grew to love the heat)
-The art galleries, gardens, and museums.
Best moments?
-Eating at the fringe of the french quarter in a quiet French-inspired french restaurant where the host sits at the table with you with her glass of wine. Very intimate. Amazing food and high-quality drink.
-After said dinner going to see a pretty big jazz act (never cared for jazz when hearing it prior) in a local small club. Being about 5 feet away from the stage and soaking in a 2 hour set at 12 o'clock at night. Perfect way to end the evening. I honestly have a new appreciation for Jazz.
-Watching street life while lounging in a chic European cafe/restaurant for a few hours slowly eating/drinking what must have been 4 courses...and that was LUNCH!
I will have to say the service side of things was wonderful (once you get away from say Bourbon street). Nobody ever ever rushes you or is a nuisance. the food/drink comes right when it is needed and otherwise you are left alone, irregardless for how long you take.
This was also my first time with a camera in a few years (and that includes disposables).
Here are pictures of Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral (oldest Roman Cathollc [I think] church in the US), the wonderful Longue Vue Gardens, Landscapes/cityskapes.
Here's one of my favorite of the Longue Vue Gardens:

Anyone else visited there? What did you think?
