Well this has been an exciting day. We had no track practice today, but a few of my friends and I decided to go running on our own after school. We went bushwacking around the cross country trail, and soon decided that ravine jumping would be more fun.
Now for the unitiated, ravine jumping consists of finding a large ravine, with high, steep sides, and running/sliding/jumping/falling down the sides at high velocity. It is such a rush, and great fun.
So, we all were careening down the ravines, and I found this one spot that looked perfect. It was nearly vertical, and at the top was a shelf or ridge that one culd jump off of. So I stood up there, took a deep breath, and launched myself into the air and downward. I hit the slope, immediately went slipping and sliding down the ravine, and pretty much 'surfed' my way to the bottom. However, about 6 feet above the ground, my feet got caught in something. I went plummeting facefirst into the river (more like a stream) at the bottom, and knocked the wind out of myself and causing much pain in the process. When I got back, I realized that my left elbow hurt really bad. So I hopped around, swearing, until the pain subsided. A few of my friends had by this time made their way down to see if I was okay, and were now gaping at my elbow. Apparently blood was spewing forth from a large laceration on the very tip of my elbow. One of my friends who is certified in first aid made me remove my shirt and used it as a bandage to tie around my elbow.
When I got back to the school, I was planning on just going home, but one of the teachers saw my blood-soaked shirt and immedaitely called for the nurse. She proclaimed that I needed stitches and called my mother. She came and took me to the doctor, whereupon they put three stitches into my elbow and splinted my arm up so it is straight out in front of me. This makes it very hard to type, and I imagine I wont be running in the track invitational tomorrow. But this is good because I also injured my hamstring and was planning on taking tomorrow off anyway.
So, yes, I know I'm an idiot, but damn, that was fun. I've never been airborne and crashed into a stream before. It was great.
