To me computers have almost a life guiding role in my daily life. I wake up check my favorate hardware sites for new reviews, check all of the seti stats, and spend quite a bit (too much) time running mine for a good portion of the day. I day dream about building computers and having a massive home network with a real fat pipe to the internet. Lately I have been browsing newegg.com for an hour or so looking at all of the stuff that would be so neat to have. Allthough I do not plan on working with computers as a career I am planning on getting some kind of degree in computers as a fall back plan.
I dont know what I would do if I did not have access to computers. I have not gotten my drivers licence yet so I wouldnt be able to have a job. I guess I could mow my own grass and trim it to a crazy level of detail. Or spend hours hoeing every single weed out of corn fields. Wait, I really should be putting in the miles so I can do well in cross country this fall. I guess thats the only bad part about spending so much time on the computer.

So, how do you fell about computers and what would you do differently with out one?

Well, I guess if I didn't have computers...............................................

I'd have to hunt and fish for all my food.

Thank GOD for computers!

Warning: long rant follows; proceed at your own risk!

You are not alone. I spend way too much time on the computer. It wouldn't be so bad, except that the majority of my time is spent here, with a little bit going to aimlessly dreaming about super fast computers and shtuff while "shopping" at newegg, and reading a few other forums (hardforums, anti tcpa forums, folding community forums, and - rarely - slashdot). Did I mention that I like forums? ;)

If I could discipline myself to actually do something useful on the computer (such as learn more programming languages, do some gfx design, or something) then I might not feel so guilty about it. But, instead, I sit around and pointlessly flush hours of time each day down the latrine. :(

It's not like I don't have any other things to keep me busy. I've got dog training classes and dog obedience trials, photography, and just chores in general to occupy the other slim slice of my time that isn't taken up by sleep. Of course, I should get off my fat, lazy ass and do some running, but I haven't worked up enough motivation to get started seriously on that yet (I've been doing it on and off, but not enough to have any effect).

Cliff's notes version: My life sucks, and it's my fault. :disgust:

I could practicaly copy and paste that into an autobiography. This is the first summer that I wish I was back in school, I took last school year more seriously than before and achieved a 4.0GPA and acctualy enjoyed it enough that I almost wanted to go.
My dad and I discussed that I clean up and repaint our International 560 Diesel tractor, I guess I'll have to bring it back up so I have something worth-while to do.
Don't get me wrong I do make it outside quite a bit, but computers definantly cause me to "sit around and pointlessly flush hours of time each day down the latrine"

I know all about the little (quite big acctualy) word motivation; more like the lack of it. I told myself that I was going to take a 2 week break after the track season and then begin training for CC. Here I am over a month later and I have put in 0 miles:disgust:. Allthough by nature I'm not a long distance runner I have discovered that with time anybody can do it. Living in the country, none of my team mates live close enough to make it practical to run together, if we did I'm almost sure I would be running; running alone is very difficult. Generaly I become pleased with my long distance abilities close to the end of the season, If I could just get myself to run during the summer I would both 1. get in better shape and 2. not be so bored.
Here goes: I WILL run tommorrow

My family income comes completely from the use of computers and has since my 37th birthday in 1996.
Either building them, fixing them, programming new & different applications to run on them or networking them for others... they pays the bills!!!!!!!!

Other than that of course I have several here at home that myself, the kids & the wife all play on.
Mine is used for development and entertainment, the wife uses hers for writing & entertainment and the kids do kid stuff mostly.
And of course I run seti on most of them for 4+ years now ;)

I spend too much time on the computers, and I will admit it.

Hi, my name is Garry Mitchell, and I am a computer addict.

<Clap clap clap>

While I was unemployed (from December til May) i spent almost every day on the computer, just wasting my time, playing games, browsing AT and a couple other forums. Now that I have a job (in IT), when there is nothing to do during the day, I read AT.

I have just got a Ford Escort that needs some work done to it, and I may be getting a Ford Anglia 105E (the "Harry Potter car", and it is, in fact, Harry Potter blue too) which I shall spend some time doing up. I am hoping that will give me something else to do in the evenings and weekends, and I am trying to cut down the amount of time i spend on the computers.

So if you see less of me around here, don't cheer too loudly, I'll still be in earshot! :p

A lot, but lately I haven't been spending as much time on them. I have a summer job, and i've been going out with my friends a lot. I did have a girlfriend, and she kept me away from the computers too, but now it's just my job and friends that keep me away from them now.

I get up in the morning, I check my computers......

I get dressed in clothes that have geeky computer sayings (sometimes)...

I go to work and work with computers.......

I am a certified computer geek......

I come home and play on the computer.....

My computer glows in the dark......

My son's computer glows in the dark......

I don't own a computer case that doesn't have at least one window in it....

I think I subscribe to at least 4 or 5 computer magazines......

I am currently sitting in microsoft certification classes browsing a distributed computing forum....

Hey, your birthday is only 8 days away from mine (same year and month, though). What's the minimum age for getting your license in the UK? In the US, it's 16.5 (I just got mine a week ago).

In fact, I'm just getting ready to drive to a meeting... a 4-H meeting, that is... to get some papers signed... papers for a project... and guess what that project is about? ;)

I spend too much time on computers...
When I'm at work its non-stop computers, and a lot of it doesn't fall under the area of work (e.g. this post)
When there's nothing going on outside of work with friends I play operation flashpoint.
Dang I don't think I've really done anything productive today at work.

2 words (really 1 and a year)

Battlefield 1942

I spend close to 20hrs a week (sometimes more) on that darn game.

Computers are like cars to mechanics, tinker toys for personal use, and something to make money fixing
I tinker with my machines and fix them for a living.
I drive a lot with work (800-1500miles a week) and I seem to relax better playing PC games than watching TV.

Computer geeks and car guys seem to have alot in common, spending lots of time and money tweaking for the absolute best performance and the best looking machine. In one of my computer classes in school (Visual Basic) the guy sitting next to me was always looking at car sites for parts for this Ford Thunderbird while I sat reading about the then upcomming GeForce FX 5800 Ultra. We both shared all of the cool stuff we read, neither taking very much interest in the others topic.

I did it! As posted above I told myself in bold underlined caps that I was going to run today. I acctualy did it! Only 3.5 miles at a moderate pace, and in the process discovered how quickly lungs get out of shape. I still have almost exactaly one month until practice starts so I still have time. To keep it on topic, I was able to pry myself from the computer.;)
