I still don't see (missing information) about what the county got for their $5,000.00. I'm going with my instinct and say they just came up with this number to get the Feds involved.
You can almost assure yourself that if any county network is found to be unprotected, they just screwed themselves by this example.
I would laugh in their face if I knew they had a security vulnerablity and then find out they got hammered by a professional hacker.
" I knew you had a security problem, but I didn't want to tell you, since you crucified the last guy. Your on your own and now it's time you pay the price for being stupid. "
To hell with counties like this. Don't want people to help? Fine. See you on CNN for your famous 30 min. of airtime as they tell the world you just got hacked by someone using a known problem!
They're just protecting their reputation and using this guy to do it. Sorry to see the county can't stand up for their own faults. Their must be a "County/State Networking Guide for Idiots" that describe the same procedures Georgia follows. Bet your can't buy that for $13.00. :Q😉
I sure would love to see their forensic analysis, to include their incident response procedure that addresses issues like this. Wait? It's a county we're talking about. They probably don't have such a thing! :|
