I haven't installed anything but now everytime i open ICQ and click to receive a message it will stay stuck on "initiating message" and i have to shut down ICQ. Also when i send messages it just shut down after a minute of trying to send. Can anyone help me here? I dont want to uninstall and reinstall because i got around 50 people on my list and i dont want to lose it.

first of all, your contact list is stored in files in the ICQ dir. so, first of all, make a copy of your entire ICQ folder.

reinstall ICQ

restore your settings, register the same ICQ UIN, and close with an empty contact list.

find the folder called either "2000a" (if you're using ICQ2000) or "Db99b" (if you're using ICQ99), then copy it into the reinstalled ICQ dir. this should restore everything :) if not, keep looking through the (extremely messy might I say) ICQ dir (old one) and copy files/dirs that look like they are related to your contact list/settings :)

You only need to make a copy of the DB directory in ICQ (2000a for ICQ 2000, and db99b for ICQ 99b)... After you re-install ICQ, copy the files u backup into the new DB directory after u register your UIN. Then run Database Converter and u will be fine... won't lose ur contact list...
