OT - Has anyone read this yet?

I am confused. Is Microsoft trying to buy UNIX or just the rights to use it? Also the SCO vs Linux lawsuit bothers me too. I guess even free stuff won't be free for long!

Scary... But the Linux Community is both smart enough, and has enough time to rewrite it all, if necessary. (I'm not a part... yet)

Kk

Nope, I don't like to read anymore 😛 I'm sure if it has to do with Microsoft though, they are probably A. Trying to take something over or B. Trying to make our lives more difficult

My only guess is that they're hoping that some of SCO's code is really in Linux (which I doubt), so then they can start charging licenses for Linux, and thus make Linux less attractive, and convert more people to Windows.

<-- holds his Linux ISOs high

"From my cold, dead hands"

That is what I am thinking also. M$ is worried about Linux, they may not say so loudly in public, but you know that they are worried.

my $0.02 here...

MS has been "looking into" linux, meaning studying, taking apart, seeing what they can learn etc... probably wondering "why do people like this enough to not want to pay outlandish prices for Windows???"

SCO just sent out letters to lots of big corps saying they believe there is code in linux that ought not be there without proper licensing. (my interpretation)

MS licensed unix in order to stay "clean" in any possible impending lawsuits ... IMHO.

It might be more than that, but then again maybe not.

SCO's in deep doodoo financially. what they need need to do is die honorably, not start this bs lawsuit to earn $$ in a pathetic attempt to ensure survival 😛

they lost my respect (not that they had any to begin with) 😉

I think MS needs to give up the gost. They just want to get advantage and get all of our money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:music:

Oh this is what I was thinking.
AT&T sold the Unix intellectual property to Novell Networks, which in turn sold it to the Santa Cruz Operation. Caldera International, a seller of Linux, then acquired from SCO the Unix rights and two SCO products, OpenServer and UnixWare. Then last year, Caldera changed its name to SCO Group to reflect the fact that most of its revenue came from its SCO business and not from the Linux products.
