OT: Had to reformat!

I don't know what the problem was, but about a week ago my computer started slowing down significantly. I tried a virus scan and what not but couldn't find anything. I decided I must have some virus, so I formated and reinstalled windows. What a P.I.T.A.

Anyways, does anyone know of a good, possibly free, ghosting program so it won't be such a pain next time?

Reinstalling or reimaging sucks (the latter not as bad as the former, but still...). :frown:

That Drive Image stuff looks cool, I'll have to check it out. 🙂

FWIW, my computer has been having weird networking related issues recently. Every few days, my computer will loose any Windows file/printer sharing on the local network (the other computer can't access mine and I can't get to its), and the other computer won't be able to access the net through ICS on my computer, but I can still ping the other system from a command prompt. Also, every so often (maybe once a week or so), I get really weird dialup error messages (not exact quotes), like "The TCP/IP subsystem does not have enough resources to do something or other..." and "The connection was disconnected due to a device or hardware error." In all cases, a reboot is necessary. Strangely, this seems to have started some time after I installed Zone Alarm, but my computer has not been auto-disconnecting properly for a long time. I fear that a reinstall is in order. :|

Drive Image for me, works well. I've used Ghost a few times too with good sucess.

Check your motherboard driver CD, a few makers include Ghost on the driver CD. Epox did the last time I bought one of them.

I thought ghost was free......(it is when you get system works free after rebate when they go sale at places like staples)

Ghost by iteslf is not a free product, I guess you can call it free when you buy SystemWorks, but you are paying for the whole package. FAR is always good though...

hay, dd if=/dev/hd?? of=output_file

the output file could be on any mounted file system, such as NFS or a samba share on a different PC. You can change if to be any partition you want. Or if you just use /dev/hda it will get the whole disk.

It will work better if the partition is mounted RO (or not mounted at all) so it's best if you boot off the redhat cd and choose rescue.

Last time I tryed to reply to this ...both my 'puters locked up and kept getting booted of line......

I think something strange is going on.

And it has to do with Digital Right Masnagement and/or the last windows update. :|
