I just got notice that AMD is gearing up for their Extreme Performance Project #2, where they come to 20 cities accross the country, and you can win CPUs, t-shirts, and other goodies.

AMD XPP2 Home

This year they will be giving away more free stuff, including 50 CPUs per event, plus holding the "Battle of the Boxes", where they ask technical PC building questions to participants and narrow them down to 2 finalists. These finalists will then have 30 minutes to select hardware and build a PC. The person with the fastest benchmark wins. In case of a tie, the person who built the PC the fastest wins.

At each event, the Grand Prize consists of $2,500 and one (1) AMD Athlon XP Processor-in-a-Box (includes processor, heatsink and fan). Approximate retail value: $2,685. First Prize consists of $500 and (1) AMD Athlon XP Processor-in-a-Box (includes processor, heatsink and fan). Approximate retail value: $685.

You can also register on-line for chances to win CPUs, t-shirts, and other stuff. :D

I know a number of TA mates went to the events, and some even got CPUs, MBs.

WHo wouldn't turn down a chance to win free hardare for their cracking fleets? :D

EDIT The Events are being held in the EVENING, so be sure to check the times and locations! :D

Thanks Ray...

Registered today!

I went last year and won a t-shirt.:)

The best part was the coffee mugs bouncing off of all the geeks heads as they tossed them out of the truck!:D:D

oh yea all the pissed off females that went so their hubbies and boyfriends would have 2 chances to win, that was pretty funny too.:D:D

Actually the prizes are a lot less and a lot crappier than last year. Last year they gave away like 200 CPU+motherboard combos at each event and the grand prize was a full system. Now you get a CPU or a t-shirt.:disgust: But that didn't stop me from signing up onine a couple days ago. I won a Gigabyte motherboard and an 1800+ CPU online last year.:D

Unfortunately the dates for both Chicago and Detroit are on days I have to work. :|

So I guess AMD will just have to happy with the fact that of the 14 rigs in my home fleet, only 2 are Intel based, the rest are AMD. ;)

Went last year. Didn't win anything but a lot of people recognized me from my picture on many articles about the case. Most were students at Georgia Tech. Maybe I'll have better luck in a couple of weeks. Tom or any other ATers want to meet there early MOnday morning? It is at the DeKalb Airport this year for Atlanta area.

Well, AMD is going to be even happier with me - I'll be ordering (5) XP1900+ chips for the (5) MSI K7T motherboards I just picked up for the crackrack(s). :D

Check the times for the dates in your area, but I think all the events are held at night this time.

The Philly event is being held at the Electric Factory (indoor facility) beginning at 8:30PM.

I think all the events are indoors and they are having them at night to give people (like me) who have to work during the day a chance to go to the event. :)

I'll be dragging the girlfriend and myself to the one in Norhtern VA (Washington DC). I think she is going to hate me, she knows nothing about computers and hates when I talk about them and keeps bugging me about what that "little cow, satelite dish and little blue bean" are on her computer, but anyway it's another chance to win.

If any of you guys will be attending that one maybe we could meet and get dinner or something together, just PM me and let me know. Also if you are in the Virginia Beach area and need a ride I can run a car pool if needed.

One thing's for sure, it doesn't look as "family friendly" as the last one. At least a few of these take place at nightclubs(Nation Nightclub, etc), which traditionally aren't places minors are allowed in, let alone places you'd want to take younger kids anyways. There's just something about 7am in a parking lot that seems more "geeky" and friendly than this.

The parking lot was very "geeky". The Atlanta event will be at a Hangar at the airport, not the big Atlanta airport but a smaller one just north of the city.

Tarca - Wish we did have the SETI/AT T-shirts, never did get the store off the ground with those and hats, mugs etc.

Dave and Tarca, I just registered then saw that you two are also going! Cool! I had glanced at the time seeing 8:30 and never dreamed it was PM! That is even better. How about Van? He is even closer to the event site!

I went to the one in San Diego yesterday, scored a 2100+.. but I don't have much use for it so I'm most likely going to end up selling it. It'd cost me too much to build a new system with it.. and my current setup is quicker anyways. ;)

Felt sorry for the guy who couldn't get his computer to work in the battle.. And all the quiz questions were easy as hell..

:| - me since I wasn't picked

So what's the problem with taking her to this event for her birthday? :p

I can't think of anything more exciting than going to a special event where there's music, special effects lighting, a geek contest, and a change to win free hardware and stuff? You might even win a T-Shirt for her! :D

I mean really, the dinner and dancing routine is so overdone....:p

;););)
