*sigh*

Lately, I've noticed that most threads have become vindictive, whining, obnoxious, self-righteous (ffmcobalt), holier-than-thou, and just all around negative. It used to be fun to come into OT (there ARE other topics of interest as well, this being a COMPUTER REVIEW webiste). Now, all we see is people moaning about people parking in front of hydrants, or moaning about how the girl they like (but have never spoken a word too) is dating someone else, or just acting like a general jackass, looking for attention. I remember when people used to be helpful, and willing to help each other. Nowadays, people who are not subscribers get shunned by those who have donated to Anand, which is kind of like donating to the crack dealer, because I'm sure without OT, over half the traffic would be removed, resulting in lower bandwidth costs.

People that create topics for the purpose of uping their postcounts should realize that they are directly contributing to Anand's bandwidth bill. Donatiing your $2 or whatever it is per month does not cover that in the least. (Please see "Lifers").

It would be great if OT could go back to the good ole days (I've only been here since July 2001, but christ, even i can see how downhill this place has gone). I'm not asking for everyone to hold hands and sing koombuya (sp?), but it would be nice to see the forums as a place people can go for help, advice (on tech issues... not your life stories), and to meet.chat with new people, without all the "drama" that most people bring.

Mods, if you feel i'm just blowing smoke out of my ass, just lock this thread.

OK, first a discalaimer; this is meant in the same spirit of poking fun as your sig. With that done, here goes. Does your sig mean that if we play enough RUSH songs eventually that "someone" will be you? :p

Stop living in the past. Things change so deal with it. If you don't like it, then don't read it and surely don't come in here and whine about it.

I've kind of noticed what you're talking about, but that's the way things go sometimes. It'll eventually go back to being good again and the cycle will continue. This forum is what the posters make it and this is what it is now. It's happened before and it'll happen again, but it'll eventually go back to normal.

Oops, I hit enter before I was done, or maybe this is just postcount +1.;) Anyway, you could have made an upbeat topic yourself, instead you chose to whine.

Muadib:

My whole point... (I think i had one) was that everyone bitches about how when people don't subscribe, they're contributing to Anand's bandwidth cost without giving anything in return. My rebuttal is simply for people to stop posting useless threads about how they had some guy's car towed away, or how they have a big hard-on for some chick at school.

I realize I look hypocritical posting this, but it seems the only way to get people's attention in here is to bitch and complain like a whiny spoiled brat.

and Mucman, yes, I thought I'd keep it in my sig since you love it soo much... :p

I suppose I should amend that to: "everytime a Rush song is played, a Rush fan commits suicide." :D

And yes, as I stated above, I know this makes me look like a ffmCobalt whiny type, but unless the thread is negative... nobody listens....

It's always amazing to me how things are always going downhill. Things were always better a year ago. One of life's little wonders.

blake, you are dead on with this post. I mean, how many more times do we need to read about another pimple puss virgin whining about some fantasy woman he has never even spoken to, and never will?
Or about some dope who thinks America is a communist government because he parked in front of a fire hydrant and received a parking ticket?
I don't which is worse: the moron who posts such drivel, or the 65 other morons who reply.

You wish! I've been a Rush fan since Grade 5 and I am still alive and kicking! I will spread knowledge of Rush all over the world until
everyone sinces the praises of Spagetti Lee!

Now, if you hadnt named a name you would have sounded much better at this point. You would have ruined it later on, but still. ffmcobalt gets on my nerves on occassion in here, but I learned to ignore it.

holier-than-thou, and just all around negative.

New to the net? This is the way most of it is. Usenet from the good ole days was the same way. You said something stupid and they made sure you remember it.

It used to be fun to come into OT (there ARE other topics of interest as well, this being a COMPUTER REVIEW webiste).

There are plenty of other forums. Spend more time in them. I prefer Net and OS myself, with a sprinkle of DC and software.

Now, all we see is people moaning about people parking in front of hydrants,

An illegal act that the member did his civic duty thwarting.

or moaning about how the girl they like (but have never spoken a word too) is dating someone else, or just acting like a general jackass, looking for attention.

Both of these can be summed up in a few words: nerdy jr high school teenagers. Ignore them.

I remember when people used to be helpful, and willing to help each other.

Visit the non OT forums. When I have seen OT threads in OT thats ask for help I have almost always seen decent replies in them (RossMAN's car thread? PsychoAndy's e-bay problems? etc).

Nowadays, people who are not subscribers get shunned by those who have donated to Anand, which is kind of like donating to the crack dealer, because I'm sure without OT, over half the traffic would be removed, resulting in lower bandwidth costs.

Yeah, Im sure Anand likes being compared to a crack dealer.

The reason n on-subscribers are shunned is because they complain about things they could solve with $2/month. If they dont feel like fixing things why should we have to put up with their complaining?

People that create topics for the purpose of uping their postcounts should realize that they are directly contributing to Anand's bandwidth bill. Donatiing your $2 or whatever it is per month does not cover that in the least. (Please see "Lifers").

I would be a lifer at this point, and if you pay attention to other forums on this site, I have gotten *MOST* of my posts outside of OT.

It would be great if OT could go back to the good ole days (I've only been here since July 2001, but christ, even i can see how downhill this place has gone). Tech issues, for the most part do not belong in OT.

Mods, if you feel i'm just blowing smoke out of my ass, just lock this thread.

Just my point of view on your fairly childish (the only reason I say this is childish is because you mentioned a name specifically, possibly out of jealousy) thread.

You forget that not everyone has 100 people that they can talk to. I much rather see people post their problems here and try to get help, than to see them keep it inside, and then commit suicide, or worse.

I see where your coming from, but I still stand by my points. Nik used to be a funny guy, until he got PMS or something. I'm not jealous of Nik in any fashion, I too used to be a crusty internet support tech who had to deal with inept management, retarded users, and bonehead co-workers, so i can see where some of his crankiness come from. If you think it's sounds childish to point it out, oh well.

I did use a bad analogy for Anand, but that was the first thing that popped to mind. Everyone taks about how they can't pull themselves away from OT, and how they have to take a 'sabbatical', because they can not figure out the meaning of moderation. That being said, I apologize to Anand if he happens to glance through here, but my comments stand.

I generally frequent OS, Networking, FS/FT, HD, and DC. I'm unsure how to find out where you post most often, not that it matters, short of asking the admins, but that really does not matter. I usually see you posting in Network and OS, and have gleaned a small bit of knowledge regarding *Nix OSes. I like to read most threads in OT, but I guess I hit a saturation limit of all the pimply schoolkid girl threads... c'est la vie..

thanks for the coherent rebuttal though, it's a rarity sometimes..

Without naming anymore names, some regulars, some newbs trying to cozy up to the regulars and those who have just subscribed and are feeling "uber-leet".

But I digress.

Maybe it was childish of me to point out that I discounted most of your post for the mentioning of names. I can live with that. I just believe that personal feelings towards one member or another should not be posted if they will hurt your overall point, and I think thats exactly what happens in threads like this. My opinion only *shrug*

I laugh at most of those threads, call the people idiots (without clicking on the link to read the thread) and move on.

thanks for the coherent rebuttal though, it's a rarity sometimes..

You can complain and you can flame but it isn't going to change anything. When there were only 10,000 members this place was awesome because everybody knew each other fairly well and there was a sense of community. But like all good things on the Internet word spreads to the AOL Chat Rooms and the Dweebs converged in mass.

While it may bother you that there are so many Pimple Farmers here whining about their relationships or their lack of relationships, at least this and the Hot Deals forum keeps the idiots out of the Tech/For Sale Forums for the most part. Do to that I feel that this forum serves a valuable purpose.
