EDIT: I won't delete what I wrote but I do say that's it's all settled again! 🙂

:| Confused, I don't know what the hell this has got to do with Nazis?? This is something that has been buging me for a long time now. Time and time again some ppl start posting things about Nazis and Germany. THAT WAS 50 YEARS AGO!!!!! Get over it! Aren't there any other current enemy figures in your head? Like Osama or any other terrorist?? If [TA] claims to be an international team the maybe its members should start treating non US members with respect! Or would u like me to start a thread like: "For any spelling slaughterer of Vietnam" or "For any spelling killer of idigenious indian ppl." WTF, dude! :|

And yes, I'm from Germany and yes, I'm glad to be German but no, I'm not a freaking Nazi!

Wow, BMC, calm down mate. It's a phrase which has been used for a long time online. Whenever I say that, I don't mean it in any "bad" way.

If it really offends you, i'll edit the title. I didn't mean it in that way. "Spelling Nazi", "Repost Police", etc are all phrases picked up online. (Edit: I suppose they appeared online after things like Seinfeld, as per post below)

Garry

Sorry BMC, it's an unfortunate reference, but it comes from Seinfeld. There was an episode with a cook who was very picky about who was allowed to eat his soup and they called him the Soup-Nazi. The term is just sorta reused for anyone who's particularly strict about something. Maybe we should stop using it though.

I, too, believe that's an expression that's outlived it's usefulness. I guess 'Spelling skicklers' would be more appropriate in this PC age...

I am confused BMC. Nazis and Germany are link forever, but when somone refers to NAZI's I don't think Germany in the current.

Also in this post he is first of all using a common terminology around forums for someone who goes crazy over spelling. I doubt he was trying to bash Germany in any way.

And if you are trying to refer to American's current gov't as worse than the NAZI you may want to go back and read some history book. 😉 (Although I am not saying America is doing the right thing, but I will leave my political view out of the DC forum)

Unless you are part of the German NAZI party (Joking here. 😛), I am not sure how you were offended.

no offense but people seriously need to chill out. this is nothing more than a joke and i honestly dont see what the title of a thread has to do with the CARTOON in the link. guys, its merely a figure of speech and there is no harm intended by confused AT ALL in regards to the title of the thread. spelling nazi or forum nazi usually refers to someone who is nipping at the heels of people to spell stuff right and stay on track. im not from germany but i have a strong german background on one side of my family and i am in no way offended by a post thats a joke. no harm was intended and i really dont see why this needs to even be discussed as a critique for a title of a cartoon thread 😕 sorry if im being insensitive but this is way blown out of proportion!

The expression is outdated... no better than 'indian giver' or the n-word for describing a person of colour (I hope that's the current categorization) or 'just like a woman' (😉)... all acceptable in their time, but not really now. I don't blame BMC for being sensitive for the very reason that the two *are* linked and the connotations are terrible. BMC's point about substituting Nazi with an appropriate description of a US group in power during Vietnam or while American Indians were being wiped out is a little murky simply because it doesn't roll off the tongue, but if you think about it, it makes sense.

[edit for spelling 😉]

Just because a saying has been used for a long time doesn't make it right.
Especially if a team member finds it offensive.
BlackMountainCow has expressed his feelings
and while I know Confused meant no harm,
We should all take the time to make this a
better place for every team member.

I've never seen a series called "Seinfeld" not do I think it is on German TV (yet). I guess I overreacted a bit but maybe it's also due to the fact that English is not my mother tongue and by that I sometimes miss subtle meanings in words or the irony within. I guess I'm especially sensitive about this topic cause in many of the online games I play I use a German name (-=GezeitenJaeger=-) and often get harrased by ppl when I play better than they do and get called a "Nazi, like all other Germans." So when I saw a topic about this even in my beloved DC forum --> I went nuts. But I guess this is settled now!

Some free German  for all! 🙂
