I already posted this in the Tech Support forum, but because I know that a bunch of you like to click Refresh A LOT in here, it'll probably get seen sooner and thus answered quicker. Hope that's alright with everyone...

OK - here's the problem. I have my own wallpaper for my computer in the form of a .bmp file (so I don't have an Active Desktop). Suddenly just today, my desktop looks like it's getting the chicken pox, only the pox are one pixel colored dots all over the screen. I right click and go to Refresh, but that doesn't seem to clear anything up (only moves the dots to different places). Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? I'm completely baffled by it myself... Thanks in advance.

Looks like the display settings got hosed...

Goto COntrol Panel-> Display->Settings... Make sure sure colors are set for something more than 256 Colors (High Color, True Color), etc.

Display settings are as follows (using the newest Detonator video drivers on my GeForce2 32MB card):

True Color (32-bit)
1152x864 pixels
Refresh Rate of 120Hz

this isn't related to your current problem.. but....
if you would convert your background to .bmp instead of .jpg or whatever it is, you wouldnt have to use active desktop, hence you would use less cycles, meaning more cycles for seti! lol

Whoa! That refresh rate looks awfully high for that res even on the 19" Monitor you have listed in your rig page. You may want to back that off a bit.

Good call! I completely forgot about that. Consider it done... ;)

UPDATE: Still no luck. Also, the pixels aren't just blue either I just found out. Most of them are, but some are magenta, white, yellow, teal (and more) as well.

It is a high refresh rate, but under my monitor properties in settings, I have it display only settings that this monitor can handle/display and this setting is an option. Had no problems with it yet (unless this turns out to be a refresh rate problem ;)).

Did you load the monitor inf file from Iiyama? If so then that is a supported refresh rate. I do know one thing and that is active desktop sucks. Usually when someone I know is having a display problem one of the first things I check is to see if they are running active desktop.

Try Zeruty's solution of switching it to a bmp and turn off active desktop....I bet that works. :D

Yes. I have the most recent .inf driver file from Iiyama installed. It is a supported setting.

Also, I no longer have an Active Desktop (changed my background to a .bmp file).

Still having the same problem though.

Lets see:

Have you installed any software recently?

Are you running the latest drivers for your video card?

If so did you recently update them?

If that is the case, maybe you need to step back a revision.

All else fails try restarting and see if the problem goes away :D

The only software that I've installed recently are a couple of very addicting cheap-o games (Lemmings and Snood - check 'em out if you don't know) and SetiTEAM. I am using the most recent video drivers for my video card, but today is the first day of having this problem and I installed those awhile ago. I'm going to try the good ole restart. If that works, I'm going into tech support for a living. "Just hit the restart button - all of your problems will go away!" :D

Have you opened your wallpaper in an image editing program and checked that is has not been corrupted? Also while your there, make sure you save it in 16+ bbp, just in case it somehow got saved as 8bbp or something

Sounds like it might be heat and / or overclocking related.
I have a GF2 and I can make it do the same thing - even with no background image, just a black desktop.
Here is how I do it, go into my GF2 overclocking settings and crank it up above "safe" levels, but not so far that it would make it lock up.
Lots of pretty little sparkiling pixels on my screen.
This is not good, and not recommended. It might kill your video card.
If you are overclocking the card then slide it down a notch or two. You want that baby to last a bit longer I am sure.

I installed a blue orb cooler on my GPU and heatsinks on the video ram, so my card runs safely at 415 mem and 210 core. If I go above this then it spaz's on me.

Strange enough, I uninstalled my DVD decoder card and it fixed the problem immediately. I'll let you know if it re-surfaces. Thanks for all of the ideas.
